It looks real bad. Its abotu the only thing that can hurt morale worse than when two guys in Anaconda were killed outside the PX. When you kill guys near places of recreation it just hurts real bad. Not to mention its the only real chance any of these attacks ever have to generate casualties.

This is frightening to even contemplate. These guys were just sitting down to have lunch, and then the next moment, they're dead. Death just lurks around every corner in that god-forsaken sand pit.

This is horrible news. Right before christmas, too. It looks like the insurgents have been getting more and more sophisticated with their attacks since the beginning of the Iraq war. It's hard to imagine an attack like this happening a couple of months ago.

My sympathies and condolences go out to the victims of this terrible tragedy. This kind of news just leaves me feeling cold inside.

It would be nice if the people who pass for leaders in America could come clean and give an honest assessment of the situation in Iraq, if they are even capable of doing so. It's quite obvious that their "we have turned a corner" rhetoric is nonsense, and the insurgency is not weakening at all.

Oh but Mike, last week, an Iraqi woman took her doggie for a walk! She could've never done that under Saddam's regime! The media is always focusing on the negative.

Evolution in action, the stupid predictable terrorists are an endangered species. Considering how many rocket/mortar etc attacks there have been on US bases they were bound to get lucky sooner or later.

Considering that some of the people they are reactivating are in their sixties, this might technically be correct.

Looks like it was a suicide bomber -- a foreign national cook who passed on information to insurgents and then decided to blow himself up. I'd look for mass-firings of foreign rkers in the FOBs, extensive (as can be) investigations/interrogations of new foreign workers. Moreover, the BDE CDR (if not the CG in charge of the whole operation) will likely order all soldiers, even within the FOBs, to wear body armor and helmets. We'll likely see eating centers go away, and instead soldiers will get their food and eat it in dispursed locations throughout the FOB -- harder to target a large gathering that way. Would look for a stepped-up campaign to root out the enemy in Mosul, demanding yet more from tactical HUMINT teams and other sources of intelligence.
