Great. Detail and resolution now to the max and runs like a train.
On the downside, I now have troubles with running Rome:Total War where my screen keeps flickering
Gonna post it at the TW war forum. Hopefully im not the only one and a patch comes out

That problem is associated with the latest NVidia drivers. It's been a long time since the days when NVidia drivers were associated with consistently high quality and reliability; nowadays they seem to push them out faster than they can debug them, in order to keep up with ATI.
Anyway, try downgrading to an older version of the NVidia drivers and you'll find that the problem mysteriously goes away.

He tends to zero in close to a particular part of a battle and forget what's happening elsewhere (he often loses track of what's happening around the flanks, so he's gotten bush-whacked by the AI on occasion), but he seems to do better than he does with C&C-style games, where you must simultaneously manage resources and unit creation as well as tactics during a battle.
How you manage to watch him play without grimacing(sp?) is beyond my comprehension. I hate to watch people make mistakes even in videogames. IOW do so at your own risk.
If you can't learn patience when dealing with your own son, you are in deep shit.

Ironic
I always had to use an old driver for my ATI card and thats why i preferred NVidia this time when I bought a new card

Yeah, I had that problem too when HL2 told me to upgrade! I quickly downgraded and fixed R:TW. It also does the same flickering to Dawn of War. My friend is delivering my 6600GT AGP to me tommorow (it's going to tide me over until I get a new computer in the next 6-8 months) to replace my 2.5-year old Ti4400, I hope it works with the old drivers I've got on now.

Especially if it's just a game- the kid of a family friend always wants to come over when they do so he can play games with me, I just let him get killed all the time. I give him pointers, but he's just not that good at it- yet.

Your going to have to reinstall drivers anyway, atleast to one Post- September 04', since the older ones don't have support for the 6600GT's.

Shit. Part of the reason I wanted this new card was better graphics for Rome, now I'm going to be putting up with fricking flickering?

Luckily, Matthew can easily defeat the computer AI on Medium difficulty in Rome. He got beaten by the AI when it attacked him with two armies and outnumbered him by about 5 to 3 (with the reinforcement army coming up on his right flank and swamping him) but he's cautious enough to save his games before a battle, so I loaded it up and showed him how to adjust his starting position and use his cavalry in order to attack one enemy army quickly enough to rout them before turning to face the second one.

I believe 66.81 didn't cause the flickering effect. Maybe it's recent enough to run the 6600GT. Oddly enough, NVidia only carries some of their old drivers on their website, and not that particular vintage. But you can get all of the "in-between" versions at http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?id=10

The first 6600GT drivers were fine, but if you want the video functionality, wait for the next driver release, this one is screwed up cause they just implemented that. probebly broke something.

The cd with 66.81 was added in the box but I see the shop already installed 66.93. Gonna try the 66.81 now
Well I got the new video card- no flickering, but the improvement in performance isn't what I hoped for. Huge units still makes the machine chug.
There is still flickering in Dawn of War (not present with the older drivers), and its crashed my computer twice when trying to play KOTOR. These new drivers really fucking suck. What's the earliest driver I can use still compatible with my card?
That said, this card rules. I can run KOTOR with AA and AS filtering up max on 1280x1024 with a flawless framerate, finally. It looks awesome.

The Huge units slowdown is related to the CPU, not the graphics card.
Actully from what I read the current drivers are the first, but try 1 generation back, it might also have support with the 6600GT.

no flickering but I got this "thing" with that sc:source tech demo test. At the beginning you should see 4 turning plaques but I see 4 turning ERROR's. Doesnt matter which driver I use
Every game works ok so far tough. (well, joint operations still is damn heavy)

Beta drivers, so does it fix the problems?

Well, I played a few hours of BFME, and I really like the game so far. Very fun, and certainly a good RTS, but definetly not Rome level. Sadly, I haven't gotten to see for myself it's graphics. The infantry really look like shit on low detail...
Captain Tycho! The worst fucker ever!
The Best reciever ever!
I just noticed that when playing the Evil Campaign, you can still play as Isengard even after it switches over to Mordor. The question is, is there a "price" to playing as Isengard still? For example, even though I wiped out Rohan, I can still attack the Fords of Isen, which offers much better perks that taking the territory that Mordor can attack, as well as giving me an opportunity to increase Saruman and Lurtz in rank. Wheras I don't have any heroes in my Mordor armies yet. I wonder ... can I attack Minas Tirith with Isengard's forces?

Just tried Rome again. I actually do have flickering. Shit. Need to get those beta drivers my friend told me about. Anyone with a 6600GT have drivers + Rome + no flickering?
Bloody hell- I mean, I can max the shit out of all the graphics (except unit size) and I've got this damnable flickering so I can't enjoy it.
Ace Pace wrote:Okey, there are beta drivers out there, which should come out this months soon(as they add support for a recently released card), try these.
