Letitia Ann Johnson, 27, of Orion Township was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder in the death of 22-month-old Jasmine Phillips. She was ordered held without bond.

Johnson gave the girl a bath Saturday night in scalding water, then put her to bed, according to her statements to police. Johnson was aware Jasmine was in pain, according to prosecutors.

Louie D. Phillips, 26, found his daughter Sunday morning and called 911, police said. She was pronounced dead at a hospital. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide caused by dehydration from extensive third-degree burns.

``There were third-degree burns over 40 percent of her body. And for 15 to 16 hours, she did not receive treatment except some Vaseline and powder,'' said prosecutor John Taylor.

Johnson has six children, three by Phillips. They are in state custody.

What is it with white trash? Honestly, why the fuck do such people exist?

how the hell do you get a bathtup full of 147 degree water? even if the water heater goes up that high, it cools off fast once it comes out of the faucet. Not to mention the heat lost in an open bathtub. Did the bitch boil fucking water on the stove??

Fucking druggies are always doing that shit, stickin the babies in ovens or whatever cause they won't stop crying. They're fried on dope and the kid won't quit crying and it gets on their nerves more cause they're high so they do some kind of extreme shit to make the kid be quiet.

Not that I have any info to the effect that this woman was on drugs, but I wouldn't be surprised if she was, because extreme cruelty to babies is a recurring thing with druggies.

You're right, I should have said "trailer trash". Of course, no doubt someone will complain that we don't know that they actually lived in a trailer park, but we all know what I'm talking about: low-class, poorly educated people, probably on welfare.

While it's illegal in many states, you can get some domestic hot water heaters to crank out 170 degree water, 147 isn't too much of a stretch.

Also, it said the child suffered for several hours. How terrible. The woman should be submerged in comparably hot water as punishment and then allowed to suffer even more than the baby did. Pour salt on the cunt's burns, too.

My guess is that Murder-2 is being charged in this case because the child was alive for several hours after being removed from the tub. Letitia Ann Johnson could have intervened at any time after that point to save the girl's life but refused do so. Proving deliberate premeditation for murder in the initial act may be difficult, but the D.A. will get a sure conviction on depraved indifference to human life.

So long as the bitch never sees the outside of the prison yard again.

From what I've read, in cases like this the woman resents the child (epecially if it's not her own) for potentially coming between her and the boyfriend.

As far as I'm concerned though, her 'reasons' are meaningless.
The death of a child, especially one inflicted in such a callous unfeeling manner, requires punishment.

In my state, burning a child to death is considered an aggravating circumstance that would justify the imposition of the death penalty if there are no mitigating factors.

From the reports so far, there are no mitigating factors.
