Gundam the RPG

Post by Knighthawk »

Ok, I'll admit it, I'm a serious Newtype fanatic (Newtype being a term from Gundam, not referring to the magazine of the same name). R. Talsorian Games was supposed to, at one point, put out a Mobile Suit Gundam RPG. The last notice they gave was back in June. I'm curious if anyone has heard anything about a Gundam game since then.

you want the good news or the bad news?

R. Talsorian got bought out by Microsith, Mike Pondsmith has been in charge of X-box franchise quality control for a year or so now, and it's been consuming his time for working out future R. Talsorian Games.

The Good news, Mekton gundam expansion rules should be available for the X-box any month now....

since I playied a drunkard Zeon Pilot/Merc with knock repair (yes thats fixing something by hitting it hard), in a game Pondsmith ran back in 1989, I am not sure what the delay is (besides liecencing)

---edit---
next to Ed Greenwood, Mike has found me to be one of the most exasperating players to manage, because I will create off the wall skills...

oh and for knock repair to work
vehicle or equipment must be considered a highly coustomized, obsolete model, held together by faith, bailing wire and duct tape.
critical sucess: machine operates at >100% efficiancy...
normal: machine works
critical failure: Paperwieght

Talsorian wasn't bought out. Linda Pondsmith (Mike's wife) is running the company now. Mike has been working on X-Box and Microsoft, hell, he's actually one of the voices in Mechcommander 2. This I know, but I was curious if any other company may have grabbed the licensing or whatever to put out Gundam.

Maybe I should take some time out to use the Mekton rules to start making the Gundam universe....could be interesting.

Yeah, well hawaiian shirt wearing mike, has had the Mekton converstion rules since the late 1980s. They were actually published in both "Protoculture Addicts" and "Newtype" magazines sometime ago, back around the same time.

Why would a Gundam game be released/distributed by anyone else besides Bandai, and what the heck formet is this game? The only upcoming Gundam RPG one I'm familiar with with the Japan-only MMORPG that's been in the works for years.

Pen and paper RPG, as I understand it, much like the Robotech RPG put out by Palladium (though with a much better rules set).

No matter how good they make it, it will never be as good as the one I'm playing at the moment. *points to avatar*

Never mind that Final Fantasy 4 is not a pen and paper game, and has nothing to do with giant robots in the far future... :wtf:

I think they mean This. 'The Returners FF RPG'. It's a d100-heavy ruleset.. There's something you simply don't see often.
