I think BFG scales up past Renegade Legion, even. And the weaponry there was insane.

Ground-wise, RL would kick Warhammer's ass all over the place, but in fleet action, I dunno.

BFG would take it. The acceleration of their ships and the ranges are far superior. Also a Shiva is the size of a light cruiser.

Funny how that works, because on the ground it's the exact opposite. The ranges and mobility would be totally in RL's favor.

Well, not really. The table top rules squish the range for 40K, but don't for RL. Once you compensate for that, it isn't so uneven. 40K super vehicles with VSGs and cut down starship grade cannons would be pretty vile. The super heavy tanks with macro cannons have a line of sight kill range. It's not pretty.

Yeah, but the artillery and mobility would be a great equalizer. The big units can take a lot of punishment, but continuous HELL round bombardments would eventually wear them down, I'd think. And I don't think there's much in the 40K arsenal that can hunt down Pedden artillery units.

Oh, since we're doing a vs. debate here and it's SDNet, let me throw in the obligatory 'You fucktard.'

Pedden artillery units.
I can't remember what they are.

But I bet the fighter units can.

G'night Typh.

Peddens are the mobile artillery units the Commonwealth and Renegade Legions use, introduced in the Vehicle Briefing and the 2nd ACR book. Grav-mobile artillery capable of firing with precision while on the move, and if grounded they can kick out three times the ROF as while they can while moving. VERY nasty pieces of work. They're not much in close combat, but they're usually quick enough to slip out of danger zones.

Now the airpower side of the equation does tend to bring a whole new debate on... how do 40K fighter units match up with RL units? From reading Double Eagle, they came across a lot like modern air units, and I think the engagement ranges would favor RL interceptors in that sort of matchup, especially with the ranges in their direct fire weapons.

The firepower is heinous. And so is their acceleration in space. Atmosphere is going to reduce it, of course, but RL's limitations of 10Gs being powerful acceleration hurts. And engagement ranges for fighters in BFG is under 1000 klicks, which just completely outperforms RL. Even with atmosphere I wouldn't want for face off against them. RL has the high tech toys, but 40K builds to last.

Okay, conceded. I was going off Double Eagle, and the canonicity of the novels is well established to be non-fluff compared to the games.

I haven't read Double Eagle, so I can't comment on it at all. It would be nasty fight though. Anything short of space battle RL matches up fairly decently.

Heading to bed. Good night.

Very good so far. Excellent shift in tone from the grittiness and darkness of Hethor and Anjun's stories.

One hell of a twist, too. That was completely out of left field.
