Dec 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The headquarters of Ukrainian presidential candidate Viktor Yanukovych will file an appeal with the country's Supreme Court against the results of the December 26 repeat presidential run-off, Nestor Shufrych, Yanukovych's representative at the Central Elections Commission, told journalists on Monday.
Yanukovych's team plans to prove in the Supreme Court that violations committed during the elections did not help establish the reliable results of the vote, he said.
Asked whether Yanukovych's headquarters is going to take the same steps taken by opposition presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko's team after the November 21 run-off elections, Shufrych said that "it will be a complete deja vu situation for the Central Elections Commission and all of society."
This is the only option envisioned by the law, he said.

Obviously his goal is to illegitimize the elections in the mind of his constituency, so that they will support the autonomy measures in their regions which are on the ballot in January. He is not trying to gain the country--he is trying to gain his half of it. He has no intention of winning the legal challenges, just making the people of the eastern and southern Ukraine feel disenfranchised so that they will support the autonomy measures. The autonomy measures, if they pass, will then provide a legitimate basis for the eastern and southern Ukraine to secede and form of their own country which, if successful, would almost certainly be absorbed by Russia.
