I'm still working up my OOB, should have it done over the next day or two. Should probably wait a bit before starting, though, too many people semismashed from Christmas.

Hey! maybe we'll wait until everyone has an OOB up, then, ok?

Yeah, I think so.
Cool beans, that makes the Mod team Marcao and Pablo. Good?

Darth_Zod:

About your orbital defense ring. Basic planetyary defenses are considered to be automatically in place- defense satalites, gun platforms, ground-to-space weapons, and even planetary shields capable of holding off fleets for long periods of time. Your defense ring's weapons, if similar in power to your capital ship's main guns, would give you a huge advantage in defensive firepower. If you want such potent defenses, you'll pay for it with less effective warships.

Also, fielding 1000 esscorts as a regional power will mean each of those esorts is half the effectiveness of a standard regional power's escort fleet. Keep that in mind.

Well... first you have to post a OOB. See the STGOD2k5 OOB thread.

I think it might be a good idea to have a third mod. That way if two mods disagree, we have a third which can resolve matters.

It was never a problem before. We typically fixed that sort of thing via ritual combat.

Quick question, how many worlds would a regional power have? And would have only three be enough? Or would I need to make more? And if I had only three, could I use the resources in terms of defense that I would get from the other worlds, and put those resources at my three worlds.

Hope that made sense.

I'm more or less leaving it up to the player's discretion, considering the vast range in the ammount of developement a planet can have. A regional can consist of a half-dozen very heavily industrialised worlds, or be spread out over a wide area, with many agricultural planets and only a few centers of industry and population. Most powers will have some heavily industrialised planets as well as a considerably larger number of fledgeling colonies, border stations, and so on.

Well, I'm fairly packed into a small area, given the vast size of the planets my people tend to inhabit. Most of my populace is concentrated in the home system itself and its gas giants.
The newly aqcuired territories are still a bit underdeveloped, though.

no problem. it's the primary reason i cut down on the number of capital ships and increased the escorts instead. my power isn't really designed to have huge shipbuilding capabilities, since it relies on outside suppliers for that. the basic idea with the defense ring is it surrounds the entire planet ala tekkaman. it's automated for the most part, with several habitat sections and the like.

plus the primary focus industrial wise is medical technologies and cybernetics, almost exclusively. so shipbuilding and weapons design is somewhat stunted, at least a few years behind the other powers in those areas, but highly advanced in the former areas.

Well, son of a bitch! Turns out my hotel room is situated so as I can leech some poor bastard's wireless bandwidth. In the words of Jesus: Sweet!

Fair enough, but with such an extremely powerful and massive defense ring, your ships will be worth half or a third as much as comparable designs, and worse in respect to your escorts. I do not recommend this approach- better to have a mobile force.

There is nothing wrong with commie space gerbils. And welcome. Bear in mind, players who are idle from the game for extended periods without first warning the mods will have to give a week's notice before being able to rejoin.

well, the basic plan is that my power isn't going to be doing much in the way of attacking anyone directly but instead is going to simply . .er. . .'maneuver' other powers to attack its enemies and supply ground troops, weaponry, etc. so it puts them at a minimal risk. so most of its battles will be purely defensive in nature.

You know, Nitram, my author-avatar's neice could easily bust me out of that puny ship, if she were so inclined ;)

I boosted my escort numbers. I now have 330 average ships (DL/DD), 200 below-average ships (CVE) and 1250 ultra-cheap convoy escorts. If that's not acceptable then I can revise them but the SKS' merchant marine is too damn big.

I know. But I figured if we were gonna go on a Galaxy-spanning roadtrip, do it in something that can do it in style.

What's with all the phallic compensators in this game, anyway? :P Some of the ship sizes are just crazy.
