In fact, that's already happening. The population in Portugal (and in the E.U, I believe) has increased this last two years after more than a decade of slow shrinking, due to the new wave of emmigrants from Eastern Europe. It's a very good thing too, because they are highly educated (almost all of them with college degrees) and merge in society very quickly.

So, we don't have with them the kind of exclusion and poverty problems that we have with others.

Eastern Europe will provide the injection of new blood the E.U is needing, with new members like Poland.

what´s the problem? they´re not taking over europe. they live here and become europeans. a lot of people i know who have turkish parents are german. they dont have anything to do with turkey. they´ve got a german passport, speak perfect german, are drafted.....

how would you rebuild a native population anyway? people here dont

Unfortunately, not all the immigrants to European countries are so benign. There was an al Qaeda cell busted in Germany, and the infamous "Shoe Bomber" was a member of a London (or Londonistan, as it's rapidly becoming known) mosque. I agree that we shouldn't limit immigration based upon any criteria (other than absolute numbers), but culture is important. That's one reason the United States tend not to hold together well, because they have vastly different cultures. Florida is quite different from North Carolina or New York or Alaska.

As I recall the exploding shoe man was a long-term UK resident petty criminal who converted to terrorism (Islam) while in prison. His case is an inditement of the UK's inability to keep sufficient track of people who convert to terrorism but has very little to do with the pros and cons of immigration in general.
