I'm not surprised. Gaming corporate VAMPIRES deliberately ruin or kill good franchises in order to lowering gamer's expectation, because:
- good gameplay needs good talents, OTOH generic "games" are much cheaper to produce
- gamers who're tired with generic, repetitive gameplay over and over again are usually nice target for *expansion packs*. Unfortunately, those expansion packs are usually not much better than the original.
See, "old-school" gamers, who usually have high gameplay expectations, will eventually die of old age (for example, many people at combatsim are above 30; myself is 29). So it's very *important* for big-time "game" publisher to
brainwash next generation of gamers (teenage gamers, etc) to lower their expectation, so eventually they will accept and even enjoy generic shits published by those vampires (the way recording industry brainwashing clueless teenagers to accept generic shits like boys band or Britney Spears).
Ruining or killing good franchises (
Look what Infogrames did to X-Com) is a way to accomplish this kind of brainwashing. Eventually there will be the day when next generation gamers will be completely unaware of
Ultima's excellent gameplay, or intriguing storyline of the original
Command & Conquer, while they would think
X-Com: Enforcer is already the best thing around. And on that day, the gaming publisher's board room would be stained by ejaculatory fluids, as every board of directors member will experience simultaneous orgasm seeing the success of their gamenazi brainwash. HEIL ELECTRONIC ARTS!!! HEIL INFOGRAMES!!! HEIL CORPORATE VAMPIRES!!!
