Official Metroid Prime 2 Echoes Thread
Alright, I'm late posting this, but damn I've been having a wonderful time playing this game.
Obviously for everyone knows, Metroid is the story of bounty hunter Samas Aran. In this one, she is taken to the planet Aether, which has been thrust into an ongoing struggle between light and dark versions of the world. Simple enough right?
This game fucking rocks. It feels and looks like the first Prime. Which is an extremely good thing. It's the best working of the controller for that genre and doesn't fail here. New comers might have a tough time but will easily get the hang of it. Two of my friends picked it up and was able to get used to it really quickly. For the veterans like myself, it's the best thing going. I jumped in and was back on familiar ground. This game starts off pretty quickly, unlike Prime where it was slow goings for a while.
So far I've played several hours and I think I've only made a minor dent in it. Which is good. That's one of the main reasons I liked Prime in the first place. A beautiful game with damn near perfect controls. I always like how you'd run over some territory a lot so you knew how it worked and could flow with it, but then you'd find yourself in different places with new challenges. It's the same thing here, and I haven't even gotten to the NEW items for this game. I can already see me calling in sick to work.
I'm sure Yoshi already has it beat, but everyone else needs to go pick it up. Awesome game, especially for 'Cube owners.

Hellyes, this game kicks ass. I got it for Christmas, and since then I've restored power to all three temples, gotten 2 Sky Temple keys, and have 88% of scans and 73% of items.

Long ago in a distant land, I, Aku, the shape-shifting Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil,
but a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow
was struck, I tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is law! Now, the fool
seeks to return to the past, and undo the future that is Aku...

Echoes is some marvellous stuff.
There's a little irritation at the end, where a totally pointless scavenger hunt sends you wandering hither and yon for no really valid reason, but otherwise it's a superb piece of gaming.
(Oh, and unfortunately, there's nothing with the visual WOAH! appeal of the fight with Meta Ridley, nice as the bosses are.)

Okay, whoever the sick fuck at Retro may be who designed the spider ball tracks to the powerup in Torvus Plaza, he needs to fucking die. I have a question for you, you sick, twisted, puerile excuse for a dribble of twat juice: How the fuck am I supposed to bomb jump from place to place on the rotating column pieces, when your stupid ass put the camera BEHIND THE FUCKING COLUMNS where I can't see what the fuck I'm doing? Piss off and die, motherfucker.

Bought it a couple weeks ago. After ten hours, I've missed four scans total, need four missle expansions, two power bomb expansions and the last two ammo expansion. Oh, and two E-Tanks. The Ing are amazing and I want them, in story form or as a character somewhere. Am I the only one who wants more info on the other elder races, feds and Space Pirates? Whether through another game or a PnP RPG, I want!

In all seriousness, I beat it the weekend it came out, sans 7% scans and 24% items. One of my missing scans was the Boost Guardian, unfortunately.
Took me 15 hrs to beat, and I'm still missing a bunch of crap. The boss fights are challenging, and the game retains the classic Metroid atmosphere, especially in the Dark World, where not only is the atmosphere hazardous to your health, the lighting is very dim. If you don't pay attention to your radar, it's very easy to get ambushed by an Ing Warrior while moving through a room.
The ammo system changes the gameplay slightly, since you can't run around blasting everything with your nifty new guns like in Prime. (Admit it, when you got the Plasma Beam that was the only thing you used unless absolutely necessary) But the boss fights are definitely where you'll feel the ammo limitations, especially when you get the Annihilator Beam, which uses both types of ammo simultaneously.
Hard mode is hard. The first time I fought the Dark Alpha Splinter, I was caught totally off guard and got wasted. I just restored Agon Wastes, and I'm not looking forward to the Boost Guardian.
Multiplayer is fun. You have Bounty Hunt and Deathmatch. Bounty Hunt is like Coin mode in SSBM, where everytime you damage your opponent coins fly out. Deathmatch is the classic fragfest. You can pick up missile ammo and health pretty much everywhere, but in order to your other three beams you have to find item boxes and break them open. Question marks give you a random superpower, be it Hacker mode, Invul, Massive Damage, Death Ball, Cloaking, or whatnot.
All in all, an awesome game.

After looking this up on Google, I went back to a save station, saved, did a power cycle of the GC, then went back there. This time, it worked properly. Therefore, I take back much of what I said earlier about the devisor of that puzzle. I still think he's a fucking cumstain for missing a bug that serious, though.Vendetta wrote:That's actually a bug.
Most people get the full frontal pillar view. I don't know what triggers it though.

Yoshi you are the fucking Metroid of SD.net!
That's killer though. I take my time through this game and explore. This and the Zelda series are the only ones I do that through though. I don't really get into other games like that. According to the strat guide I'm heading to Torvus Temple next. No, I'm not following the strat guide exclusively. I use it when I get stuck.
The multiplayer is pretty damn awesome though. It is Metroid Prime Multiplayer. Not Halo 2 wanna be. It does take some getting used to though.
Btw, I want to say thanks to everyone looking at or posting in my OFFICIAL Metroid Prime 2 Echoes thread. To everyone else there is only...
