planetary shield details

is a planetary shield generated from a single structure or multiple structures? And how large are those structure(s)?

Not much is said about how large the structures are. But there are notes that it is usually multiple structures.

oh yeah, and does a planetary shield block transmissions or visual scanning?

Usually? so, it could be done with from one location?

Some shielding does cut down transmission, which was evident in ESB.

It would likely be dependant on how strong the shielding would have to be.

You could have an Endor or Hoth set up but the added area would make the whole far less powerful.

Actually, come to think of it, how does the realistic forcefield concept mesh with the visuals of the shield setup in RotJ? I mean, how do you create a sphere of shielding some large distance away from the projector?

In that case there may have been a system on the death star itself to allow the shield to do that. since the generator just creates the field it is possible the death star has something on it to bend the beam into a spher around it but can't project the sheild itself.

it could be created like a bubble with it streaching out onto a spheriod plus cone

Or they know something about how they work that we don't

Multiple structures, and they are the size of a good sized building. See the Hand of Thrawn duology (Bothawui) and the X-wing books (Coruscant) for more details. There are multiple generators that each generate a segment of the shield.

The shield on Coruscant actually has two layers that each encircle the entire planet, each layer made up of multiple segments.
