you can make a donation online, or get information on how to send money in a more secure fashion if you so choose. Make sure to specify that you wish the funds go to the Asian tsunami relief effort.

Done it.

There's no way I can sit by, fat (figuratively :D ), dumb and happy while this is going on. I've got food in my belly, a roof over my head, and the meds my life depends on, if I've got something to give, there's no way that I do nothing during this.

Donated. Do so ever year, but not every year something of this magnitude happens.

I'm sitting safely and happy...if it even slightly helps anything, I want to make some small part help the people in this catastrophe.

Haven't donated to the tsunami appeal directly, but have donated to the red cross a fair bit this year. Haven't done anything directly, because I've been preparing for the worst down here with more than 70% of the fleet of yachts in the Sydney to Hobart, Melbourne to Hobart and Melbourne to Launceston races seeking shelter and retiring, several being abandoned at sea...

We're worried about a repeat of the '98 race where there were quite a few fatalities... Thankfully it seems the worst is over for this year.

Me and the girlfriend made a donation last night to the American Red Cross. I'm usually not much of a donator as I usually fall into the "Enough other people are helping so they don't need me" catagory. But I felt a little different this time. If the disaster happened at another time rather than Christmas, I may have not donated.

Donated Yesterday.

I simply don't see how you can't if you have the ability to.

Ok...just have to question this. Its all well and good if you can't afford to send money, I hold that against NO-ONE. But in a thread specificaly asking people to make a real contribution if possible, you jump in simply to say you are sending moral support? Yeah, thats a given, I'm sure EVERYONE is sending moral support, but tell me why exactly you felt you had to make such a point of it?

I'm not angry or irritated....just completly bewlidered given that we have a thread existing for expressing our fealings.

Of course if a Mod considers this flamebait, feal free to remoev.

Nah, Chris. I would have taken a shot, too. if you hadn't. I'm far from a moderator, but I have to say I get a lil irritated when I see stuff like that (For instance, in my goodbye to Friends thread, alyeska came in near the beginning and said something to the effect of "This is for people who LIKE friends to talk about it as a cultural and social event, and NOT "OMFG! FRIENDESES IZ TEH 5700p1d!11!11oneoneone" Still didn't stop some people.)

I have given as much as I could to the red cross (a hundred bucks) it ain't much, but it'll buy a gallon or two of JP8 to get a hercy-bird in the air.

I'm probably going to help out at a local Buddhist temple which is collecting supplies for the Sri Lankan victims. But I feel like doing more, especially in Sumatra, because they basically took the brunt of the disaster for us in Malaysia.

Our Strike Group got detoured to the Indian Ocean at "best Possible Speed". Even had briefs about pulling dead bodies out of the water (eeewwww).

Should be a fun rest of deployment.

Hmm. That's a good idea. Giving blood is always a good thing to do anyway. I need to find a blood drive; it's been a few months.

I've given some cash, and the Glasgow Anime group are planning to give some of our funds as we won't use it for anything as worthwhile as this.
