Hello everyone!
I am writing this little message in order to deal with my perceptions about various things I see shaping up in the STGOD. I have not conferred with either Thirdfain or Pablo on this matter, these are simply my thoughts and perceptions on various matters. The first matter I wish to touch upon is that of spending points on ground units and what this should avail the players that have taken this step.
As I see it, spending points which could have been allocated to your navy to your ground forces carries with it several advantages. A single capital ship point spent, is the equivalent of billions of credits which have been channeled into the nation’s ground forces. Due to this influx of cash, the ground forces are better trained and equipped than normal. As it has already been pointed out, spending capital points or cruiser points or a combination there of will not grant you super-powerful man scale anti-orbital weapon systems. They will grant you superior ground troops which will be better trained and equipped and more capable than “vanilla” troops.
Furthermore, I imagine that relative size should be taken into account when points are spent. If nation A spends 5 capital points for instance, but applies those funds to its entire army of 15 million soldiers, while nation B spends 2 capital points on one million soldiers. It is not difficult to believe, that Nation B’s 1 million soldiers will be tougher than 1 million of Nation A’s own forces. There are of course diminishing returns, so the idea of spending 1 capital point on a dozen personnel or fewer is not highly recommended.
Ultimately, I think that so far most nations are relatively well balanced and those that have spent a great deal of points in their own grand forces such as the Corsair Republic, the Federation of Thaumatogists(sp?) and the Kzin will certainly reap benefits for doing such.
Notes:
1. Superpowers: There are a handful of established super powers running around this particular STGOD. The vast majority of these individuals were established during the original STGOD 2 and thus, there is no real way to exclude them without ruining those aspects of the story. Nonetheless, I hope that these potent characters will be handled like Vampires in STGOD 4 meaning that consent is required for them to be used on another player. Some of the characters that would fall under this category are such as the head of the triads, Jupiter and several other SKS personnel. Personally, I enjoy watching these characters since their particular stories are a lot of fun. ^_~

My humble map offering.
It is currently incomplete, I'm going to bed for the night. I'll hopefully bring it completely up-to-date tomorrow.

Oh, it seems I'm alone in my corner of the galaxy...
And I'm changing my oob slightly, to shift one capital point to my new insectoid army. At least now I have something of a remotely capable ground arm...

If one of you gents could be so kind as to drop the Sixth out in one of the fringe arms, I'd be grateful. It fits with the 'where the fuck are we' plotline

I don't think you have to worry about the handling of certain characters and they don't work in the interest of their residing nation anyways.Marcao wrote:Some of the characters that would fall under this category are such as the head of the triads, Jupiter and several other SKS personnel. Map edited to include two other groups. I'm heading out for now, I'll be back later to add more people. Just PM me with where you want to be, I'll scan the OOBs otherwise, but not everyone makes declarations on that.

Thankee, odd radially-symmetrical one. It brings warmth to my heart to see BFE-007 catalogued on a map of the Milky Way.

I'll take an area of the denser region of stars to the galactic northwest of the Knights Templar.
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

Anyway, I'll start working on a final map shortly. I have a lot of other catching up to do.

I could add Azgert to mine easily enough, just need Mod say so. However, if Crayz is planning on releasing an official map, there is really no need for mine.

The Azegart should be on the map, so I expect Crazy's official map to have them. I think they're more of an autonomous province of the TSC now, rather than a mere puppet state.

New Coruscant was a planet owned by the Second Galactic Empire (run by Ryan Gordon AKA Lord Rog, I have no idea where he is now). It was also the location of the second inter-universal jumpgate, which has presumably been collapsed.Jaded Masses wrote:Who owns New Courscant may I ask?
And it seems people are making a big deal about their location; so I need to ask: Don't we have star wars level technology- so FTL gets across the galaxy in a day or three? Not to say location is irrelevant by any means though, just wondering...
Either way, it was heavily defended and now is probably marked "THAR BE DRAGONS" on any map.

Most of the region around the core shouldn't be settled by any current player-nation. They are assumed to have been largely destroyed by Halite and the successive Kzin invasions. Where the Boyd Collective used to be, and the right fringe of the map are the most likely areas.Crayz9000 wrote:Either way, it was heavily defended and now is probably marked "THAR BE DRAGONS" on any map.

You know, with that in mind, I should mark those particularly war-torn portions as something like "Great Waste" so new players don't think that it's a really good area of space.

And here's my updated map. Let me know if stuff is still missing.
By the way, per Pablo's suggestion, The Great Waste is basically a messed-up region of space that covers most of the galaxy. It simply means that resources in those areas are likely to be more scarce, the number of devastated planets higher, etc. The core space of the Quadruple Entente is not part of the Waste since those are the regions that survived (mostly).
The Milky Way as of Winter 2005 STGOD

The Azegart should be the same color as the TSC. Also, the People's Republic is dead. Black Alliance is currently residing in the Large Magellenic Cloud. HAB, Nyfitsar, Aquarian Union, and Krytos are MIA. I have no clue who the hell AEGIS are. Oh, and the Rpblksrpsk should be farther north. Just a bit south of New Holywood.
EDIT: oh, and I don't think the Great Waste should be quite as large. Most of the core, certainly. Around where there were major installations like New Holywood, Yarmuk, etc, certainly. Most of the galaxy? No.
