Evidence suggests that after the events of "Survivors Quest" the Empire of the Hand was joined back into the mainline of Chiss society, given how General Fell was holding a high Chiss military rank on the homeworld when the Skywalkers came to visit.

The Chiss survived the YV invasion quite well, and their entire 'assistance' to the NR was...two fighter squadrons as scouts

The Chiss did develop Alpha Red, for all the good that did.

At the time of "DarkJourney" the EotH (not that it was called that way) was still seperated from Chiss main-society and establishing hidden bases in preperation for the Vong, should they show up. It even appeared to be a growing organisation.

At the time of FH it seems to have vanished in EU-limbo.

Considering the cultural disarray Csillia was in at the time of Refugee, and the fact that Fel held a high position in the Chiss military, I'd say that the EotH and the Chiss Ascendancy underwent an uneasy merge between DJ and FH2. They may have done so for added protection and buffer zone from the Vong invasion.

I wonder what it could be though. Something powerful enough to scare Fel and such silly that they'd pick up an Imperial uniform again. Did they not know about the Vong? Or is there still something freaky-deaky out there waiting to pounce?

Spoilers for the upcoming Dark Nest trilogy.....

I believe it is the Killiks, the presumed extinct race that once existed on Alderaan.

They're Insectoids. Not much is known about them. We'll have to wait for the book to come out....
