STGOD 2K5 OOC Thread

Remember, hyperlanes are cheap to use and fast. No, you don't have to use them but most of the major shipping lines will. Fold drives are horribly expensive and probably restricted to military powers and for things like express parcel services. B5-hyperspace can be fast, but navigating B5-hyperspace is a nightmare -- expect a lot of crap in there as well as fighting did take place in it. Warp, well, warp is slow.

I'll stay with the fold driveish system. My nation used it last time, no reason to change it now that we play there again...

Lines represent hyperlanes, that is, places where SW hyperdrive travel is faster. Purple lines are major routes policed by the various powers and routinely sweeped for debris and other junk. Red lines are not well-swept or policed but they are, in theory, fast routes.
Points represent major star systems.
Nobody is required to use hyperlanes; they are merely cheap and convenient.

o.O!
Heya guys!
I just wanted to ask if there was any particular reason why the Sabai are all the way up in the galactic north, when the Indashani (territory they are occupying and were near to) were located to the galactic west and closer to former black alliance space.

I would also resent the hyperlane running straight for my home world.
No way in hell would my people allow such a thing to be free access to it, especially as we do not use hyperspace transportation.
At most, the moment this hyperlane crosses my border, interdictors will drag anything out from hyperspace and carefully take a look at what wants to enter. No free ride to my home world through this hyperlane...

Someone could jump in and out of the hyperlane, however, to avoid your interdictor patrols. Is it really that big of a deal?Dahak wrote:I would also resent the hyperlane running straight for my home world.

But a hyperlane into a territory that doesn't use hyperdrives and isn't so long known to others, is just...unrealistic.

You could also use hyperspace off the lanes by making a lots of short hops, but this would tend to reduce your speed severely.Crayz9000 wrote:Dahak: You aren't forced to use hyperlanes unless you use a more or less linear FTL system like hyperspace, warp, etc. Nonlinear drive speed is probably still affected by all the disturbances, supernovae, black holes, and other assorted junk left over from the wars so it's not terribly great either.
1) You could have appeared on a pre-existing hyperlane. Your corporation is actually located very near a former disconnected piece of the UTR, making it very possible.Dahak wrote:I know they could sneak past a border.

2) You're a corporation. How do you propose to make money if no one knows where you are?

1) eh? There is nothing there, except that blotch of so called "great waste", which wasn't there the last time around of this STGOD, were explicitly stated that my nation is quite away from any of other nations, as it has been quite for some time. I can't do anything about that someone decided to create a brown blotch in *this* incarnation of the map just off my border...Pablo Sanchez wrote:1) You could have appeared on a pre-existing hyperlane. 2) As in my oob, the corporation is, like so many things in life, just a name, a historic remnant. They've been prospering unbeknownst to others for quite some time...

There used to be a chunk of the UTR over there in the misty past, there isn't anymore, but it's very possible that the fast lane still exists.Dahak wrote:1) eh? Okay on that point, but whatever. I don't know what the basis of your perennial desire for your STGOD power to be unknown and undetected might be, but I think Crayz could probably downgrade your hyperlane to "old and decrepit" if we asked him nicely.2) As in my oob, the corporation is, like so many things in life, just a name, a historic remnant. Didn't say it wasn't.Thirdfain wrote:Your power can't be unknown and undetected, it's from the previous game. It's a safe bet you are known galaxy-wide
But on the other hand there wasn't, and isn't much reason to come by and visit me. In case the old STGOD was missed, my people aren't exactly high on the friendly-towards-guests scale...
And so certainly no one bothered to have such a fast hyperlane there, maintained and all.

Hey, hey -- I didn't mean to start a flamewar over here.
Fixed map -- no hyperlanes through Stuart Corp space, Sabai moved (I just didn't know where to put them before), etc.
Now, as for my reasoning of The Great Waste, and why the hyperlanes are where they are, here's the new map composited over an older ASVS STGOD map. Pardon the quality, it's just to let you guys know I'm not pulling this stuff out of my ass.

Shit. I forgot about Nashtar. Lemme fix that too.
Edit: Fixed. Any more issues with the map now?

Well, you're a regional power and you've got a bit over a dozen systems, right? I had to bring you back down to scale with everyone else, since your territory was... a bit large for a regional power.frigidmagi wrote:Why did I shrink so badly?

How does it work, anyway? Regional > Minor > Major > Grand, right?
hrm. Anyway 1,000 lightyears (spherical or so) should be enough for a dozen major systems and a handful of colonies.
