Gundam Wing

Post by Battlehymn Republic »

Is anyone still a fan of it? The show was worse than UC Gundam, but the mechs make for some good match-up fights.

gundam wing is easily one of the worst gundam series out there imo. did absolutely nothing to add anything original to the series, and the main antagonist is little more than a poor char aznable clone.

True. The title for this thread should be UC vs. AC. I read a really good debate on it in the archives, and I was wondering if the people debating are still around.

When I saw it wasmy first exposure to Gundam, and I enjoyed it. But having seen what else there is to enjoy, it really isn't all that good and the fact it was aimed at girls doesn't help (nor do the even more ridiculously painted mechas and their ability to ignore damage unless it's a plot point).

I used to like it alot, but then I started watching the other Gundam series. It's utter crap in comparison.

Although i'll never forget the time I searched the net for Gundam wing fanfiction before I knew what Yaoi ment.

personally I prefer Gundam Wing to Mobile Suit Gundam...

Amuro annoyed the SHIT out of me... and he was the entire show... :x

then again, my absolute favorite Gundam series was G Gundam, so you can probably write me off as a complete loony... :P

*coughs* actually i kind of prefer G Gundam over any other gundam series i've seen myself. though largely due to the fact that it doesn't use the same tired formula over and over like gundam wing and gundam seed. plus it isn't trying to take itself too seriously.

I think Gundam X is a lot better than Wing although Wing is the girst Gundam series I ever watched so I guess I really enjoyed it out of ignorance of the better Gundam shows out there.

I totally agree with you there.

Gundam Wing was the first Gundam series I saw, so it holds a special place in my hart. Didn't care much for the characters, but I love the MS, and Gundam designs. I think Wing, and Endless Waltz, have some of the best looking mech from all the different Gundam shows.

I haven't watched it sinceI collected the entire series and the OVA on DVD. As others have said it doesn't hold a candle to the other UC series, but I don't hate it, because it was what got me into Gundam in the first place. On a completely different note, I'm planning on having a marathon of Gundam, once I get all of UC and the AU series on DVD. That should take a month or so.

I prefer G Gundam over pretty much all of them.. but then I'm a big fan of the Super Robot genre.

UC still whomps the crap out of wing though.

I used to love Wing and Endless Waltz. Then I found the joy of UC series and the bliss that was G-Gundam and Turn A. Needless to say, I have no reason to go back to Wing again.

I still enjoy a little does of Wing from time to time, since I like the MS designs and one of my all-time favorite Gundam characters is Duo Maxwell (they should've made him the star of the show! :D ).

Wing had some good points, the plot was typical gundam fare as far as hypercomplex politics go. And they had gigantic robots, woot. And it deviated from the stop evil empire and good federation dichotomy with the main characters being the motley crew of a ship that must run to the safety of earth. On top of that some of the characters were well written, at least in the dub.
As it is it's not the best series but it has its upsides.

I really need to see X.

Agreed.

Well it's going to be released or has been released on DVD in Japan. So it might be released here after Seed. Though ZZ or Destiny might be more likely.

People attack Wing way too much. Really, it had some awesome stuff. Some of the coolest robot designs and massive amounts of destruction. It's tough to go wrong with that.

As with many others here, Wing was also my first exposure to Gundam and at that time I enjoyed it quite a bit. However, after watching Gundam: Seed, Stardust Memory, 8th MS Team etc. , my appraisal of Wing has dropped quite a bit. Sure it has nice Mecha designs and good amounts of action, but even those cant get me too interested about it after seeing SEED.

Oh, and perhaps one of the biggest things that annoyed me in Wing was that idiotic pacifistic bitch of a Relena Bitchcraft. Goddamn, she annoyed me to absolutely no end during the entire damn series.

Wing was OK. It was basically the first "serious" anime show on national TV here in Canada and I liked the intro music and some of the later battles and episodes. I picked up Endless Waltz on DVD and thought it was pretty good. However, I thought the the beginning of Wing was annoying though. The Gundams were just TOO uber and the pilots especially Wu Fei and Hero just really annoyed me at times.

Lol, you have no idea how pissed I was when Wu Fei and his stupid wankermech nabbed that heavy particle cannon from, I think it was Noin, and then turned it on her and the other forces with her (Here I was thinking that their would be SOME realism and at least one of the wankermechs would be at least shot up real nice but nooooo, sexist uber boy and his wankermecha just had to win flawlessly again!). Although I guess I should be pissed at Noin for hesitating and giving Wu Fei the chance to take it from her "Oh no wait! The pilot is just a boy! we can't shoot him!" *grumbles*, damn stupid episode, piss me off....

What is this "complex politics" you speak of? Endless Waltz had no hints of complex politics. It was basically "I'm a bad, evil queen girl being manipulated by an even badder greedy-ass to rule the world under the mandate that 'war is a part of human nature.'" Yay!

It took away from the coolness when nothing ever happened to the Gundams. It's like turning on godmode and wading through a shitload of enemies. It's fun at first, but becomes boring really really quickly.
