Re: Naval Simulation Games
I kinda liked Jane's Fleet Command. Realism be damned, at least I had snazzy looking 3-D models (Most of the others I have thus far come across are text-based).Kamakazie Sith wrote:Can anyone recommend a list of Naval Sims?

Seconded. JFC reminds me so much of the day when gameplay won over realism (market-wise). The best place to find it would be such like Amazon or eBay, though, since the title has been killed by EA.RogueIce wrote:I kinda liked Jane's Fleet Command. If you're interested in realism and don't give two shits about graphics, then I would check out Harpoon 3. The game doesn't sport the nice 3-D models of ships blowing up and sinking like JFC does, but it can't be beat in terms of realistic naval simulation.

How about Destroyer Command? It was a buggy, "incomplete" game when first released two years ago and I haven't been following its related news. Was it eventually patched? And if that was the case, does it play better?
If you don't mind playing retro games, you'd probably lucky enough to stumble into Microprose's Task Force 1942 on eBay. Warning: pure DOS is needed for that one.

Battlefield 1942. Not a sim by any means, but join a Midway server with 10+ players, and you'll get planes swooping on your carrier, soldiers manning the AA guns, subs stalking your ship, destroyers pounding the island while dropping depth charges...it feels like a sim.Kamakazie Sith wrote:Can anyone recommend a list of Naval Sims?

When you're not playing bumper cars with the Enterprise and the Yamato? (That was an amusing pic...)Robert Walper wrote:Battlefield 1942.
