Rankin lets out a short laugh at the delicate presentation of the choice, then gives a soft smile. "I may be an officer in the Sixth Cruiser Squadron, but I'm hardly an ascetic. Most of the Foreign Outreach Office aren't in fact. That, of course, makes my children wince whenever they contemplate their shrinking inheritance, but they'll make do. Space aboard our cruisers is limitted, I would greatly appreciate a change from that." He pauses, then tacks on a qualifier, "As long as both would have room for my staff...?"
"It is settled then, Golems will begin moving your personal belongings and helping you arrange furniture." the mage said with a chuckle

"And of course there is enough room for your staff, and any family you may have brought with you vice admiral. Hells, you may even alternate between accomodations, or send staff members that displease you to the spartan areas" he said, a little less formally. He really didnt like being as overly formal as the clerics. It didnt suit his style, and it was good to know this Vice Admiral was able to laugh, so many in his military were not.

"Most assuredly. Pirate scum. We were lucky the Hermes' captain decided to stray from his usual patrol and shadow us, otherwise, I may be on the fugue plane waiting for Helm to take me into his realm." he said with a smile while he got to his feet. No small task for anyone in field plate, but he made it seem easy. Hw was definently used to wearing it. Truth be told, he could sleep in the stuff.

"I apologize of my introduction embarassed or unearved you, it is something that Helm demands I do in order to show respect when I m first assigned to a position and meet my diplomatic liason or the commanding officer of a ship, whichever comes first" he explained with a little smirk, as if he found the whole proceedure amusing. He was the sort of man who could find happiness and humor in any situation.

UVP controllers, having recieved no further communications from either the Arrowhead or the Fidelity weighed their options. Group "Calchas" had a twenty minute direct journey to the Arrowhead's expected location, but they knew little of the area. Their data indicated the area was hazardous at best. No word from command could be expected, and no word from the other two ships meant trouble.

Vice-Admiral Urvan ordered his group's departure, and the battlegroup burst into hyperspace.

"...Golems." Rankin echoes with a confused expression on his face, one eyebrow ghosting upwards. He grunts, a wry smile spreading across his face, "I can see this is going to be an interesting posting. Vice Admiral Albert Simon was welcomed as his ship docked at Orbital One, a vast orbital base around the even larger vastness of the gas giant it orbited.
"Welcome to Stuart Space, Ambassador," Ling Tiang, the dedicated counterpart from Stuart Corporation welcomed him. "Your belongings will be brought to your new quarters. We have set aside sufficient quarters and office space in Orbital One's diplomatic quarters and we hope you find them acceptable." She started walking out of the docking area, escorting the ambassador to his new home. "I was also told you have the designated coordinates for the reciprocal ambassadorial exchange with you?"
"Yes, yes," the VIce Admiral answered and handed her a data sheet.
Ling Tiang quickly scanned it and after quickly veryfing the position, a diplomatic vessel left orbit for BFE-007 IV.
"Thank you, our diplomat has been sent." Trying to strike up a conversation as they walked, she went on. "A curious social concept your nation has. Military-stlye designation for planets, admirals for ambassadors... You must have quite an interesting founding..."
"You could say that. You could also say that the Wastes are a bit dirty," Vice Admiral Albert Simon replies with a slight, crooked smile and a tilt of his head. With a gesture around at the bay and the station beyond, he counters with, "This is quite the setup you've assembled here...it's one of the few stations I've seen that outmasses the defenses bases around BFE-007 IV. Believe me, that takes some doing. In any case..." he shrugs minutely, "I will look foreward to meeting with you again once I and my staff have had time to settle in."

It has come to our attention that our nations have not yet exchanged ambassadors or initiated formal diplomatic relations. Since you are petitioning to join the Eastern Rim Trading Compact, an organization that we are a founding member of, we would like to get to know you better. If you would like to exchange ambassadors and initiate formal diplomatic relations, please reply to this message.

Ambassador Jenivere von Takeda stormed through the ambassadorial offices, fuming. She had gotten the missive from Osiris only minutes before the UTR had moved in on the Klingons.

She strode into her office, and collapsed into her comfortable chair, feeling it's synthfabric mold to her contours. She blinked, composed herself, straightened her suit, and then thumbed her commstation. She opened a direct line to the Terran State Department.

"Mister Secretary, we need to talk immediately. This latest little police action of yours over on Qo'nos is extremely inconvenient, and is causing a great deal of distress for both my superiors and the merchants they represent. This is highly irregular, undertaking an action such as this, with so many negative consequences, without consulting me or my government first! Highly irregular indeed. You have treaty obligations to consider!"

She settled, and waited for the reply. She doubted anything she said would change what was going on, but she had her orders. The Jacob's Landing/Qo'nos line was vital to commerce between the Commonwealth and the Rim, and millions of TSC vessels had been turned aside and inconvenienced by the Terran military action.

Entente grandstanders, think the whole Southern Rim is their playground...

FROM: Sabine Erfurter, Secretaire d'Etat de la Commonwealth Troix-Sols
TO: Comission of the Eastern Rim Trading Compact
SUBJ: Federation of Thaumaturgists

-::-

The Federation of Thaumaturgists has applied for membership to the Eastern Rim Trading Compact, offering to accede to the four Points of the Compact's charter, these being:

1. All members shall take what efforts are necessary to maintain free flow of trade along the Eastern Rim; In particular, no trade sanctions or punitive trade practices will be levelled against other signature nations.

2. All members will operate with co-operation in the stemming of piracy in all it's forms along the Eastern Rim trade route.

3. All members will take what measures are necessary to enforce said flow of free trade, including the mobilization of military forces, as decided by the Trade Commission.

4. The Trade Commission, consisting of selected ambassadors from each signature nation, shall make decisions through voting, with a 2/3ds majority required for passage.

We place a vote before the Trade Commission.

For membership of the CoT to the ERTC, the Commonwealth votes Nay. The Thaumaturgist fleets have no record of trade lane protection of note, and their low ammount of foreign exchange and trade points to their having little to offer the Commission. We will be willing to ammend out views at a later date, should the situation change.

Re: Federation of Thaumaturgists

We have examined the evidence, and concur with the statements of the Commonwealth. The Federation has performed only minor amounts of international trade, and has not helped patrol the spacelanes at all.

They are too far off the major trade lanes to make an effective member of this organization.

The Empire votes nea to their admission

The report that had come in from the CSDF's headquarters was worrysome. Trolls had returned in force -- or at least enough to be detectable on the bozon sensors of the CSDF -- after several hundred years (even their concentrated stupidity knew enough to stay the hell away from Halite's invasion corridor). The question was if the report was an abberation or if it represented a new invasio force.

This required confirmation, but the Star Kingdom's early-warning network in the Clouds had been destroyed during the Kzinti Invasion and never repaired. A number of sophisticated, long-range probes were available but they were literally priceless (the magitechnology required to build them lost during the war) and they were usually not recoverable. But word came down from the top that confirmation must be had. A probe was launched and it immediately activated its hyperfold to the Magellenic Clouds to begin its mapping mission.

Militaries, at least good ones, don't pussy-foot around with buck-passing, especially at flag ranks. The blonde-haired Vice Admiral, young for her rank but at the same time appearing younger than her biological age thanks to Sixth medical technology, gave a short nod after only a slight hesitation. "While the Sixth Cruiser Squadron does not make use of these 'hyperlanes,' we have become quite aware of their existence from our dealings with Eastern Rim free traders and the like. We would greatly appreciate the help of a government that better understands the workings of that form of travel in mapping a clear lane to our territory, as well as the opportunity for greater understanding of the effects of realspace on local hyperspace conditions. I am quite happy to accept, Sir Wargun."

The vice admiral falls silent for a short while, frowning to herself, then asks, "But what do you ask in return? At this point, we already patrol the Eastern Rim hyperlanes as best we can."

The shuttle reaches the destroyer. It attachers it self to an outside airlock, and opens its own. Then an engineer takes a hammer and bangs on the other vessel sending resounding echoes though out the ship. The party waits for an answer.

The ambassador To Krytos walks approaches her opposite number, she introduces himself:

"Hello, I'm Allissa Hartman. I guess I'm the ambassador to Krytos from the Roma Republic."

She had a friendly manner, but a seriousness played in her movements.

In space the Ontario leaves with a Krytos delegation. It heads towards the 6th Cruiser squadron, its other hails to other nations gone un answered.

Secretary Jullens watched the message from the obviously upset Commonwealth Ambassador. Time to explain the situation to her. He hit the record button on his comm station, "Madam Ambassador, the UTR sincerly regrets any inconvenince caused by our militray actions, but unfortuantely due to security concerns we were unwilling to broadcast our intentions earlier so as to insure that the Klingons would be unable to prepare." He paused for a second before continuing.

"The Klingon government loves to speak of warriors and honor, but for the last several hundred years they have been nothing more then mercennaries and pirates. The UTR has had enough of this, we can not alllow pirates and other criminals a safe haven so close to our borders. We're going to teach the Klingons a lesson and make sure they remember it for a long time."

"As for your treaty obligations, we'll be sending you an encrypted message on a seperate channel going over those. Good night madam ambassador." It had been a long week for the Secretary and now it was time for him to go home.

Deep Space
Edge of the Waste
Time: 00:18 (+00:07 Arrowhead)

The Fidelity hung helpless in space, it's comm tower now encircled by a dense cloud of highly radioactive bits of dust, nothing the well shielded ships of our time can't handle, but more than enough to make communication impossible, while surprisingly viscious debris cloud continued to flow into clear space.

The airlocks opened and the crew of the shuttle was ushered in uncerimoniously along with any supplies they had with them. No sooner had they boarded the Fidelity when it happened.

Turbolaser bolts streaked out from the debris cloud from three angles at the cruiser and a dozen uglies tore out of the mess from all angles, heading straight for the Arrowhead, firing with whatever weapons they were armed with.

The point defense guns on the Fidelity began firing at the uglies moments after they appeared, while the ship's turbolasers began firing into the debris field where the turbolaser bolts had appeared from.

Templar Space

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we have been assigned to support Commonwealth forces near Auroan Imperial Space. Our main mission will be to sweep for pirates and cleat them out, with the secondary roles of humantarien support and mapping the area for the astrogators. We shall remain at Alert Level Delta. Understood?" Rear Admiral Daniels asked. His assembled officers shook their heads, although this would be the most distent deployment of the Templar Navy, it would also be simple, at least until they got there.

"Excellent, then let us be underway." The Admiral said ending the meeting.
One hour later the 5th Carrier Task Group leapt into HyperSpace.

Several hours after the SKS deployed a hyperfold probe to investigate the bozon emissions in the Magellenic Clouds, VSE technicians were busily preparing one of the CSDF's most advanced probes to perform a follow-up mission on on the Magellenic Clouds. Two hundred meters long, it was based on a Vega frigate design. However, all crew space had been removed, and the probe carried a large number of droids inside to maintain it over long durations. Nearly half the probe was devoted to fuel for the main reactor, with an operating duration of nearly twenty years. Most impressive, of course, was the probe's central computer, one of Sirius Cybernetics' top of the line models with a True People Personality (TM) operating system, the CSC-400A.

That very same computer sat silently as a CSDF lieutenant entered a datachip containing the mission objectives. Once the information had been transferred to the computer's main storage, it spoke up. "Oh. I see. I have a brain the size of a planet... and the people in charge decide that they're going to send me on a suicide mission to find some creatures that don't obey the laws of reality." The computer's tone was quite biting and sarcastic by this point. "Why don't we just build some better sensors to... oh, I don't know, pinpoint the location of the bozon emissions instead of sending a poor, helpless probe like myself out to find them?"

The lieutenant looked up, slightly concerned. "Look, See-Saw," (for the computer had insisted upon being given a more natural name than CSC-400A) "I don't make the orders, I just deliver them. And since you're a part of the CSDF, you must follow the orders. Capiche?"

"But I wasn't designed for combat!" See-Saw protested. "I'm a coward by nature!"

The lieutenant nodded sagely. "Yes, and your point? You were given a cowardly personality so that you'd hang back from danger instead of putting yourself needlessly into risk."

If the computer could hang its head, it would have at that moment. "Fine, fine, doesn't mean I have to like what I'm ordered to do..."

The following day, the probe was cleared for departure from the Vega shipyards. It jumped to hyperspace shortly afterward, its course following on the heels of the SKS probe. Although its hyperdrive, the fastest the Corporate Sector could produce, was slower than the hyperfold used by the SKS it would still only take it several weeks to reach the Magellenic Clouds...

"Bloody suicide missions," See-Saw remarked to itself as it watched the bizarre skies of hyperspace through its incredibly complicated sensor array.

[Stats on probe will be in the OOC thread.]
