State of Affairs (I)
Just to shed some light on this matter, especially for US inhabitants
About Enterprise, after visiting http://www.firtstvdrama.com .... (here we go again...)
How is it possible that B(eavis) & B(utthead) could destroy the franchise without any reprisals?
Does Paramount care about the people that watch it's shows?
Is the US public getting dumber, allowing for this kind of thing?
Is it just a big Hollywood conspiracy?
Don't they see the real world? Where things are supposed to make sense. (Oh yes, this is science-FICTION! Silly of me! )
Opinions, please...

POKE THE NOOOOOOOB[/size]
ahem.
1: Because B&B are the worst writers EVER.
2: No. Their shows are cash cows
3: There is a section of the public that likes this shit, that much is true.
4: Doubt it. Conspiracy to do what?

I never thought of that. I could've actually saved myself some embarassment. Oh well, no surprise really- I'm incompetent.

1. Because they are still raking in the cash. They simply haven't alienated enough fans. And they have replaced most of those, albiet with a much dumber demographic. The problem is the lowest common denominator works. How is it possible that B(eavis) & B(utthead) could destroy the franchise without any reprisals?

2. Paramount doesn't give a shit and neither do B&B. As long as they make the money they don't care. It's not a labor of love so they don''t give a damn. Unlike Roddenberry, the Farscape team or JMS.
3. Yes. Look at the rest of popular culture. Star Trek is merely being dragged along as western popular culture circles the drain.
4. Nope, just a bunch of people that don't give a damn as long as the money is flowing.

YAY
Well, you know what this means, don't you?
"Captain, I'm detecting two Vulcan ships sending out a distress call. THey are being shot at by Klingon warbirds."
"Don't respond, it goes against our prime directive, we can't help a culture who isn't part of our Federation."
"But Captain, the vulcans are part of the Federation, we are allowed to help them."
"No, we need to waste 50 minutes debating whether or not we will help them just in time to help them, barely."
"Aye Captain."

Re: YAY
Of course, how would we fare as the crew of a starship? Looking at some of the debates we've had (and we being general, not me and Fax or any particular combination of people), we'd be hard pressed to avoid some really stupid-looking debates. Not as bad as B&B, but still stupid.FaxModem1 wrote:Well, you know what this means, don't you?

Welcome, stoat!

OK, what's this POKE thing, heh?
Really, the dumb fan base must really be large, well, at least in the States, for them to continue to "invent" Star Trek, just slap Star Trek on the cover, it will sell!

1) Hell yes.
2) No. They want money.
3) Probably, but not because of it. Remember, Cooking with Emeril was rated higher than Enterprise, and most of the people who watch it religiously live in their mom's basements.
4) No. It's the capitalist conspiracy. DEATH TO THE CAPITALIST SCUM!
Of course, it's better than Friends. But then, so is getting raped up the anus by a thirty-four inch icepick covered with spikes.

Love Hina's a pretty funny manga.
To answer the questions, B&B can get away with this because Paramount just doesn't give a shit. Check my sig for what I think of people in general. As long as stupid people exist, crap like B&B Trek will flourish. And in case I haven't said so earlier, welcome to SD.net. *Force Lightning*

I say it's more because sex appeal pointlessness.
While T'pol does little for me...to horny morons...it's a great magnet, and to some it's this hope that maybe, just maybe it'll get better because they love the ST name so much...personally I quit around late TNG...and only saw bits of DS9 because my friend hyped up this big war.
Trek has gone a long way from TOS.
