Rise of Nations Draka Mod idea by KlavoHunter

Rise of Nations Mod : Draka

For those of you who've played the EXCELLENT RTS game Rise of Nations, and also visited SD.net's FanFic forums (Shock horror! I mentioned the Board Which Must Not Be Spoken of!), you've probably also seen the DrakaFics, based off of the Draka series by S.M. Stirling.

After some thinking, I decided, heck, why not combine them?

Basically, what I would like to do is to create a new nation in Rise of Nations (likely, the one we'll replace would be the Bantu, you cannot add in a whole new nation, you have to replace one), and this would be the Draka, the Africa-spanning Dominion originally created by S.M. Stirling in an Alternate Histories series, and is currently subject to the enjoyment of Shep and others who are making their own alternate, more plausible timeline for the Draka series. This is the link to the general thread which gives you all the information and links you need to read them.

After some thinking, I believe that the Draka would make an excellent nation to put into Rise of Nations... Here's what I've got so far in my head for what this would look like.

The Draka have the Power of the Yoke.

- Gain 5 Free Citizens every time you capture a City. Double Plunder from captured Cities.

- The Draka do not use Caravans, all Territory-based Wealth income is increased by 400%.

- Citizens working at a Farm, Woodcutter's Camp, Mine, or Oil Well/Rig create +2 Wealth each.

- ???

Unique Units -

Gatling Gun - Enlightenment Age - Machine Gun
Draka Unique Machine Gun; Earliest Machine Gun unit; Moves slowly; devastating against enemy foot troops;

--- This would be keeping in line with Dr. Gatling moving to Drakia after the American Civil War and the Gatling Gun being invented there, instead.

Steamer Warcar - Enlightenment Age - Ranged Cavalry
Draka Unique Ranged Cavalry; Lightly armored vehicles that can fire while moving; Stronger, Tougher than other Ranged Cavalry units

--- This is keeping in line with the massive Drakian exports to the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War, where they sent massive amounts of aid in the form of weapons, ships, and also "steam-powered war cars". This trend never caught on with anyone else, as these things tended to eat more fuel than would make them worthwhile when you can get a horse to tow a piece of artillery instead to fire Canister shot. But this is keeping in line with the Draka's seeming ability to be one step ahead on the new wave of technology. I feel that if this unit is made too much stronger to differentiate it from standard Ranged Cavalry of the time (Carabineers), then we'd have to have it be higher in price, something that hasn't been done before with Unique Units.

Airship - Modern Age - Bomber
Draka Unique Bomber; Longer flight range and tougher than normal Bomber; Powerful against enemy cities and buildings; somewhat inaccurate.

--- The Draka love their airships, what can we say. I'd considered making the Airship appear in the Industrial age, but that would neccessitate reviving the "Zepplin" concept that was originally going to be part of RoN as an Industrial-Age Bomber type for the rest of the nations, so the Draka aren't overpowered with a glut of Unique Units that are everything cool an age early. Longer range to show the obviously longer range that an airship like that has, since it's not burning fuel to go that far, and more HP/armor to show how well-armored it is, as anti-airship guns are 155mms, I believe, to attain height and power vs airships.

Now, what I'm looking for from you guys, is ideas for filling out the National Power, and a couple more Unique Units. And then, I'll be looking for people who want to work on this if it ever gets off the ground in a serious way.

Before anyone says "Janissaries, that's what makes the Draka the Draka!!! Tons of screaming slave troops high on drugs and being forced forward by their own troops' machineguns!", I decided not to do that, as there already is a "Janissaries" unit for the Turks. I might institute something to the Janissaries effect, like add to the 5 Citizens free w/city capture bonus (Serfs effect), and give you a free unit of Light Infantry as well, maybe cheapen all Light Infantry costs by 10%?

No, I'm Praxis on the SGN boards.

Remind him of the ST vs SW fanfic.
