How did poking come to sd.net?

I can vaguely remember there being no poking, to suddenly poking becoming a tradition here in sd.net. Can anyone refresh my memory on how it started?

Some of the new members got all high and mighty with their post counts and decided if they got poked on other boards, they would do it here. Don't worry, it'll stop once you hit a few thousand on your pc.

I used to only deploy my puny mortal warning, but as poking spread I adapted it as well.

Prodding, poking and probing the n00b has a long and proud tradition on ASVS.

As does flaming and TGODing them until they cry and run away.

I always wondered why we hardly ever get new members there...

The trick on ASVS is to start posting very slowly and never announce your arrival. I managed to avoid all forms of greeting that way, though the fact that a few members already knew me helped.

I've done the same thing here. Kept nice and quite and stayed in the wings until my pc hit padawan. I've been here for a while but have very much remained guarded about my opinions. The sig says it all...
