It was obviously a shoot with CGI composited in. Unless you think that they combined individual shots of every actor, even though some of them are holding each otherandrewgpaul wrote:There was no shoot. That photo's a composite shot.VT-16 wrote:True, maybe Temura wasn´t available for the shoot.
That's how they got Jar-Jar and Grievous in there, since they're both CGI.

Probably because:Why is James Earl Jones not in this picture!
A. George didn't managed to convince him to pose for the photo, or
B. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that most people who saw the OT, never knew/know that he WAS the man behind the mask. After all, the trilogy was made quite some time ago, only most of the movies-addicted and fans *cough*like-here-on-SD.net*cough* could remember such ...

To me, it was JEJ! After all, apart some black-gloved gestures, nods, and bows, all the acting came directly from the voice!KhyronTheBackstabber wrote:James Earl Jones, wasn't the man behind the mask, he was the voice. Well, David Prowse did say the lines on set, and he was dubbed over later by James Earl Jones. That's how they got away with "I am your father" without spoiling it- David Prowse actually said "Obi Wan was your father".
Anyway, I take the Darth Vader suit to embody both Prowse and Jones.

Credit where credit's due. You're only getting part of what make Vader, Vader. The voice was only the toping on the cake. The gestures, the way he carries himself when he walks, and the body language is all what make Vader the bad ass, who instills fear, and commands respect. Look at it this way, would Vader still be as bad ass, if it were Woody Allen behind the mask, with JEJ still doing the voice. On the other hand he wouldn't have the same effect if Prowse was be hind the mask, and Meatwad supplying the voice. It's like peanut butter, and chocolate, my friend.Dead_Ghost wrote: To me, it was JEJ! After all, apart some black-gloved gestures, nods, and bows, all the acting came directly from the voice!

It ended in 1983, dude. The EU, the prequels, and all the rest of it has been nothing but a 22 year death rattle.Chardok wrote:As cool as it should be, aren't you guys the least bit sad to know that's it's all going to end?

Don't be like that.
Besides, most people who are bitter about the way Star Wars has gone say it began at ROTJ, not after, so shouldn't you say 1980?
Anyway, the prequels are the end, certainly not part of a death rattle. The EU doesn't enter my mind.

ROTJ had its moments. It wasn't as good as the first two, but it wasn't bad. I've said before that a lot of the brain bugs that have ruined modern Star Wars got started in ROTJ, but it's not ROTJ's fault Lucas and the EU writers took its bad ideas and ran with them.Vympel wrote:*boo-hiss*RedImperator wrote:

Though you're right that 1980 was the absolute pinnacle of the franchise. ROTJ was a giant blown opportunity, the prequels are at best all sizzle and no steak, and the EU is...well, the less said about it, the better.

According to the DVDs Prowse said "Obi-Wan killed your father" which is in a sence true (without Obi-Wan Anakin would have taken a swim in lavaVympel wrote:W That's how they got away with "I am your father" without spoiling it- David Prowse actually said "Obi Wan was your father".

I don't agree with you with the fact that body language is what makes him the bad-ass. JEJ's voice took a grand part of it. With a character that didn't use a mask, then this would really be debatable, but in Darth Vader's case, sorry but I don't really think that body language was THAT much necessary. Only the voice told us whenever he WAS making a subtle/obvious threat in the first place. What did we saw though, was him pointing a finger, lowering his head a bit, and then turn swiftly and walk away. Not very much of a hint, is it?KhyronTheBackstabber wrote:Credit where credit's due. However, I'm not saying Prowse's roll was pathetic. That's BS. It takes quite a large bit of effort and talent to move like he did, as a crippled and old man "powered" by the Force. The armour wasn't probably heavy to wear, but was definitely cumbersome. This, though, wouldn't be enough, otherwise George would've get ANY man (possibly the one with the lowest wages ) to get the job done. However, he needed someone to act like the voice hinted at. And Prowse did an excellent job at that!
To me, though, I still see JEJ as "the man behind the mask". His work with the voice was flawless, methinks.

Yeah because James Earl Jones is built like an tank, oh wait he's not. David Prowse just being that huge walking nightmare was a good 50% of the role. Sure James Earl Jones played a unique role, his booming voice perfectly accompanying the height and bulk of Vader but it was by no means a one man show like you're trying to say it was.

I am??? Please specify "one man show" . I've already said that Prowse did a great job beneath the armour. However, to me, JEJ played a more crucial part in the role than Prowse.Lord Pounder wrote:it was by no means a one man show like you're trying to say it was.
Whatever. Look, as far as I can tell, I've made the topic digress from its original point. My apologies for this. If anyone wants to debate this , then feel free to open a new topic for it, and I'll be there to get my ass kicked (I AM a n00b, and that's what happens to us, right? ).
