Blame The Americans

Post by Montcalm »

Sorry for not posting a news link, but i didn't find any but if someone knows one pease post it.

Just read in the local paper, that yesterday on a tv documentary the Frenchs blames the Americans for the Kursk incident, claiming that it was 2 US subs that sank it,the first accidentaly collided with it,while the second shot a torpedo at it to help the other sub escape.

WTF is wrong with the forgs and their hatred of Americans.

Here is a link in French, which I don't I don't understand too well, but I understand enough to get the jist of this line:
le Koursk a été coulé par les Américains. Personne n'émet plus le moindre doute. La question en suspens concerne l'engin utilité. Une torpille ultrat-secrète, la MK-48, selon les Anglais ( "dont on ne sait rien, sauf qu'elle existe" )
Basically: The Kursk was sunk by the Americans. Nobody doubts this. the only question is what weapon was used. An ultra-secret torpedo called the Mk. 48. The British say about it "We know nothing about it, except that it exists"

Don't worry: Even in France, it's safe to say this will recieve the same reaction from the mainstream as the "Find the Boeing" book did...

BTW, there is longstanding conspiracy theory in Russia that the Kursk was sunk by a US Sub, but most Russians who subscribe to that theory believe it was an accidental collision that was covered up by both the US and Russian governments...

Why can't the French rely on impeccable news sources like Fox and the Weekly World News .... like us?

You do realize that the Kursk, like the other subs the Ruskies have accussed us of sinking via collision was provably not sunk that way. For one thing there's the simple fact that we don't have a sub in for that sort of damage.

And if a US sub did suffer such serious damage from a collision, the public would definatly know, like in 1992 when the USS Baton Rouge collided with the Russian "Sierra" (Barrakuda)-class submarine Karp: although both subs were able to leave the area under their own power, the Baton Rouge was decomissioned shortly afterward, and the Karp (now named Tula) is still laid up and is not expected to return to service.

Besides, the Kursk collision theory falls apart because of the simple fact that an "Oscar-II" (Antey)-class SSGN like the Kursk is twice as heavy as a Los Angeles class SSN and has a stronger double-hull construction, meaning any collision that would cause fatal damage to the Kursk would probably sink an LA almost immediately...

Oops!

Just a thought, but isn't the Mk 48 Torpedo already in service, and been so for a while now?
Many thanks! These darned computers always screw me up. I calculated my first death-toll using a hand-cranked adding machine (we actually calculated the average mortality in each city block individually). Ah, those were the days.

Thanks for missing my point entirely, Stormie.

The French are just like us ... some of them get their news from fairly reliable outlets that check their sources and care about the facts ... and some of them get it from worthless sensationalist rags. Just like us, they have an alarmingly large number of nutjobs among their populace who will believe anything if it reinforces their myopic, nationalist view of the planet.

WTF is wrong with the forgs and their hatred of Americans.
Why do so many Americans hate the French so much? This isn't a jab at you or anything, but, I've thought about making a thread about this. I don't understand why so many people hate the French so much. Maybe someone could shed some light on this for me. Is it just because they are an easy target to "pick on?" Is it because they didn't help us with Iraq? Is it the "Har har har, they surrendered so easily to Germany in WW2, they're a buncha big wimps?" Is it the snooty Parisians?

It just all seems so unnecessary to me that a lot people shit on the French so much, especially since I've seen a lot of people just base their opinions off of TV and movie stereotypes of the French.

Well, Montcalm is a French Canadian who lives in Quebec, which is Canada's bastion of rabid anti-Americanism, virtually all of which comes from...yep, the Quebecois "Frencher than the French" assholes (whom other French Canadians understandbly like to distance themselveles from in the eyes of the rest of the country).

French-only media outlets in Quebec also have a strong tendancy to be blatently anti-American, because the French-only outlets are controlled by the Quebecois.

Well, as for the brits, they've hated each other for a long time, for historical reasons and what not. Americans tourists are mostly pissed because they won't say "e-mail" and speak to them in English whenever they step on Paris. 8)

Americans and French disagree because we both fervently believe in the superiority ouf our respective cultures. That we both believe that we should be running the world.

seriously though, their were some guys from Bretaigne (IIRC) that used to come into a restaraunt i worked at a few years back. They were pretty friendly actually. However Parisian arrogance is known to them quite well. It would seem that the arrogant Parisian and the flag waving American hick have something in common.

Indeed. And the disparity in displacement is actually more like three to one in favor of the Russian boat.

STUPIDEST fucking thing I've seen all day, and I've been on the internet for a couple hours now!

You'd think something as unmistakeable as torpedo damage would have shown up when the fucking wreck of the Kursk HAS BEEN FUCKING TELEVISED INTERNATIONALLY!

Oh, and as an aside on the Quebecois being "more French than the French"; they don't even speak the language "properly".
I'd love to see how that statement would go over in Paris.

"Frencher than the French" mostly refers to attitudes, as in the French are steriotyped as being snobish and arrogant (especially when it comes to their language and culture), and the Quebecois are far worse in this regard: also, in their case it's more than just a steriotype...

The biggest irony is that people that like to slam America like to point to isolated incidents or minority crackpot theories and say "See? See? America IS bad!"

But if we point to idiocy like this from the French, and say, "See? See? America bashers are idiots!" they'll throw a fit.
