A miscarriage is a very traumatic event. I know two women who each suffered a miscarriage within the past year. After it had happened, both of them were emotional wrecks. They cried for days, wanted very little contact with other people, and even felt a little humiliated. They both felt like they had failed somehow, or were physically unfit and unhealthy to ever have children. And now these people want to treat a miscarriage like its a murder investigation??? Its disgusting.
I'm writing you to wish you luck on your bill requiring women to report miscarriages to the police within 12 hours. It's a good bill. It will provide law enforcement officers with the ability to interrogate women immediately after they miscarry, a time when they're the most emotionally vulnerable. It should result in many more feticide convictions.
We can do even more to protect the lives of Fetus-Americans. I've developed a small handgun that they can use to defend themselves. It's a fine weapon, but I've run into problems when I've given it to them. Fetus-Americans have lousy eyesight, hand-eye coordination, and judgment. They need extensive firearms training.
That's where you come in. I'd like you to propose that the Commonwealth of Virginia institute a firearms instruction program for Fetus-Americans, something like the NRA's Eddy the Eagle Program--let's call it Ziggy the Zygote Training.
I'd also like you to be personally involved in the project. I'm a big fan of your Have a Cosgrove Christmas CD. Perhaps you could write songs to help the little Ziggy the Zygoters learn to use firearms responsively. When are the legislatures going to learn that changing the criminal codes doesn't do shit for these types of problems? Not every "trash can baby" is abandoned as the result of malicious intent. Some (not most, not all) young pregnant women/girls get scared and in a panicked state abandon their baby. Not to say this is a good idea, or that they are right, but they certaintly are not thinking with a clear or logical mind. What the legislators need to do is start looking at why this happens, so it can be prevented. God forbid they actually see what is going on in their society that would possibly be influencing such criminal acts.
And I don't think that this is part of some anti-abortion lobby, but I'm sure they are more than willing to support it.

Now you remind me of one idea that's been used in some places. To prevent "trash can babies" somewhere, those areas allow mothers to leave their infants in a little private hidden place outside a hospital. No questions are asked; the baby can just be left and the mother leave and never think about it again. The infant would be cared for and put up for adoption. When implemented, only a very small number of babies are "abandoned" at those hospitals, but the number who are abandoned to the trash fall to zero.
