Should I buy an ipod or wait for a PSP?
Well? I am in a mental deadlock so I kind of need some help deciding.

Love my iPod.

I would ask you what your intentions are. Do you want a pure music player or does it need to play games? Does it need to be iTMS friendly or could you care less? You get my drift?

I does not need to play games but the options of the PSP are welcome and in my mind add up in its favour. It does not need to be iTMS friendly either. My main concerns come from my thoughts of maybe being left behind in the world of technolegy since I have heard rumors that the PSP will be able to watch TV in the near future as well as have an internet browser.Vohu Manah wrote:I would ask you what your intentions are. I think you're way off base here.Icmoigigan wrote:I does not need to play games but the options of the PSP are welcome and in my mind add up in its favour. What options of the PSP? Sure, you can watch TV if you buy some extra stuff, but the DS ALREADY has a TV reciever out for it. So does the GBA. Heck, I have a TV reciever for my TEN YEAR OLD GAME GEAR.
Internet browser? Again, if it had it, it would be in a seperate software release, and the Nintendo DS w/DSLinux or any PDA would be fully capable of doing the same thing. Buy a $299 PDA with WiFi :p
As for the PSP's music capabilities...let's see.
PSP = $300.
1 GB memory stick = $100.
total = $400.
For that price, you could buy an iPod Mini and a Nintendo DS :p
As for watching movies, you have to buy them in a proprietary Sony minidisk format (which BTW fits half of what a normal DVD does), so it's more expensive than normal movies and doesn't play in a normal DVD player.
If you are NOT intending to play games, get the iPod.
If you are intending to play games, consider the DS, and only get the PSP if you absolutely must

I must admit that I have a bias against combo devices (such as those PDA Cellphones and what the PSP has become), so I'm inclined to agree. You can't go wrong with any stripe of iPod as a pure music player (now starting at $99 new). The PSP isn't even out in this country (USA, don't know where you are), while the DS is if you need to play games on the road. Even if the PSP debuts at $150 US (the lowest possible price point considered by anyone), you can find a full portable DVD player for a little more. Need PDA functions, they can be found as cheap as $99 new.Praxis wrote: I think you're way off base here.

If you want the PSP solely for the ability to dabble in lots of things, you are definitely barking up the wrong tree. This is not to dissuade you from purchasing it, just think it through. You clearly want a portable music player, but do you really need all of the other functions the PSP may offer?

You make a convincing arguement. I think that after that I will go with an ipod since the games really do not matter to me and I realize that all the decent ones would cost alot in addition to the system. It was mainly the movies/tv/internet that wat making me think of buying a PSP and you have successfully countered the music options for the PSP by revealing the extensive price of memory sticks. So I think I will go with an ipod thank you everyone for your help in deciding.Praxis wrote:I think you're way off base here.Icmoigigan wrote:I does not need to play games but the options of the PSP are welcome and in my mind add up in its favour.
