You don't actually expect him to admit that he and his administration made a mistake did you? But hey at least the Iraqi's are free now........... free to be cut down in a crossfire between rebels and coalition troops.

How can he say that without throwing up. I mean seriously, you led your country into war on a false premise, cost the lives of thousands of Iraqis and American servicemen, and he justifies it with "greater good" bullshit? Where was this greater good when he was first making his case to the American people, was he hiding it?

Pretty easy to lie when it's raking in billions for your family. What's a bunch of "evil" Middle eastern people compared to continuing your family line for hundreds of years to come.

Invading Iraq for oil is a valid hypothesis. Not to access the oil, it was always accessable. But to control it. Saddam stopped being a stooge of the US government around the end of the Iran-Iraq war, marking the end of his usefulness. George Bush [this Presidents father] thought he could get rid of Saddam by manoeuvring him into invading Kuwait, allowing him to form a coalition which could legitemately kill Saddam's regieme. This is all about controlling oil, they all fucking knew Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, Al Quaeda or terrorism. And EVERYONE knew Saddam had no WMDs. The fucking UN was telling us that for years! Why would it lie?

Again, it's not impossible but its a hell of a gamble to start an unpopular war against internation opinion, and with another war ungoing, just to get oil. Big claims require big proof.

Never mind that Saddam was being a good client dictator and mistakenly thought the US approved or at least didn't care. Needless to say that was wrong indeed.

And Bush Sr was not about to "get rid of" Saddam nor kill his regime. After all, did he wish to he could have easily enough during the Gulf War. Instead he didn't and even (in an appalling move) withdrew US support for a popular coup against Saddam Hussien.

So if you wish to claim such a scenario, go ahead, prove it.

Bush Sr said in his memoirs (or was it another book?) that he didn't invade Iraq and take out Saddam because the costs that would have been involved were more than he considered worth it. Anyone have the exact quote?

The proof is simple: the case for invading Iraq was based on evidence known to be inflated, trumpt up or flat out wrong. Colin Powell's infamous UN presentation was debunked mere hours after his delivering it.

As for starting an unpopular war against international opinion, Bush did it anyways, whether for oil or WMD's, so that's a point already proven invalid. Since we know what the war was NOT about (war on terror, WMD's) all that is left is the oil, unless you want to say that Bush simply randomly decided to invade a nation with a dictator (skipping over dozens of other countries in Africa with far worse regimes that would have been easier conflicts to win).

Yet he promised that support didn't he? Bush changed his mind because he felt that he couldn't sustain support for a popular revolution and the inevitable occupation by US troops that would follow (unless you really think the Kurds could have stabalized the situation on their own) which is exactly why it was such a stupid idea for us to invade Iraq today. The same motive was there, but Bush Sr. was just a bit smarter than his idiot son.

I'd love to see this asshole impeached. It would make his re-election almost worth it, just to see him expelled from office in disgrace.

We should compose a letter to send to our Senators and Congressman asking them to do just that. I know it wont do any good, but at the very least it would make me feel better.

Um, lifting the sanctions doesn't guarrantee that he gets the oil, all it means is that there is another Arab nation who might sell it to him ...

Probably they would stockpile *every* pint of oil to drive a price increase. Of course, if all else fails, they could always choose more inventive, product-repackaging options like marketing the oil as masturbating lubricants.
