Did the Deathstar need to be that big?

Now this would be, IMO, the best possible substitute for a Death Star... even at half again the diameter of DSI, it still has less mass (I think?) than DSII. What with the sheer size of this craft, it undoubtedly would be quite capable of carrying a fuckton of troops, armor, and several garrisons' worth of equipment... the ideal Darksaber.

I recommend HIMS Adequate as the name of this worthy craft... :D

Why? It's insane, yes, but so is the Death Star.

Meh, while the Deathstar is overkill, the super uber SD is pure wank. Atleast the DS is a compact and efficient shape and not a planet size knife blade.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

However, besieging a vessel that can destroy your vessels as fast as the superlaser can recharge is a losing game.
You don't besiege the vessel, you besiege its support base. THAT'S why the Death Star is so huge.... so it would have no support base to besiege.

When you can explain why you need to have hangers for ISDs, the ability to dock an Eclipse, and a three km high bridge, let me know.

It's kind of like... 'WHOOPEE! LOOK AT THIS!'

*produces Star Destroyer the size of the Milky Way*

I sort of like the look, but the scale is one-upping wankishness.

That is a valid strategy, but only if you BDZ its support base. Because otherwise it could just blast through your blockade fleet.

Of course, if Tarkin really was planning on taking his toy and going, he probably was including the notion of luring rebellious admirals and the like to his side, which brings us back to the prospect of a mobile supply dump on top of its regular battlefield capacities, because at least initially his people would be in the midst of organizing a new logistics chain independent of the GE.
