Harry Chapin - Cats in The Cradle. Depressing bloody song...
"Oh no, oh yeah, tell me how can it be so fair
That we dying younger hiding from the police man over there
Just for breathing in the air they wanna leave me in the chair
Electric shocking body rocking beat streeting me to death"
- A.B. Original, Report to the Mist
"I think it’s the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."
- George Carlin

"Out of the Blue" by Foreigner. It's not so much the song itself as the association with my past. Every time I hear it, I close my eyes and I can still see my first date with Rebecca in my mind's eye. The crisp winter air, the snow gently falling, her long brown hair framing her rosy cheeks in the night, the whole nine yards.
Yes, I know, I'm dating myself. Might as well go all the way and admit that I always found "Separate Ways" by Journey to be very evocative of the emotions that can go through a young man's mind after a breakup. This part of the chorus is indicative of the tone of the song:
If he ever hurts you
True love won't desert you
You know I still love you
Though we touched
And went our separate ways
Who doesn't have feelings like that after a breakup, unless the girl was a bitch?

"What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong takes the cake for me. It extolls the beauty that is the world, yet with a hauntingly melancholy melody. It was written to be ironic (yet earnest) in the face of the Vietnam conflict and the general social upheaval of the time.
Some other songs that evoke emotion include "For No One" by the Beatles and "In My Life" by the Beatles.

And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

The Offspring: "The Meaning of Life", "Gone Away", and "All I Want", from "Ixnay on the Hombre". Back then, when I first heard them, I was in a pretty much depressed state, and these three made me wallow in self-angst
"Words That We Couldn't Say" and "Call Me, Call Me" from the OST of Cowboy Bebop touches me deep every time I hear them.
On a much lighter tone, "Ask DNA", also from the OST of Cowboy Bebop, touches me as well...
"I Stand Alone", from Godsmack, also brings me back some bitter memories.

I just noticed that many of the responses in this thread were about songs evoking negative emotions rather than positive ones, so I would just like to add: every hip-hop song ever made.
Seriously, if I walk into a store and I hear a hip-hop song playing, I turn right around and walk out again. Just the sound of it grates on me and makes me irritable. I can't stand to listen to that shit, and I'll go spend my money in a store where I don't have to be tortured while I shop.

Not EVERY one. Just every one that was ragingly popular.I just noticed that many of the responses in this thread were about songs evoking negative emotions rather than positive ones, so I would just like to add: every hip-hop song ever made.
Then there are the songs that talk about how cool it is to have fly honies and the bling-bling. Those are just nauseatingly masturbatory. "Unh. Unh. Mah niggahs, yeah. Chillin' in mah pad with a hawt piece o' ass, unh. Yeah, yeah. Livin' it up like 7-up, yeah."

Couldn't remember at the time the names of a couple of songs that bring back laughable memories:Darth Wong wrote:I just noticed that many of the responses in this thread were about songs evoking negative emotions rather than positive ones.
"Come Out And Play" by The Offspring-> It was during a concert, I was just jumping high with arms up when this guy stepped on my left feet PRECISELY BEFORE jumping. I was so freakin'surprised that I lost balance and got pushed back and fell. End result, I ended up hearing the music and looking at the pitch-black floor for my left sneaker. At the end of the music, I saw, amidst the lights coming from the stages, a hand holding a sneaker.
"I Think I'm Paranoid" by Garbage-> Suffice to say a couple of friends of mine managed to convince me to do a little karaoke. I was lucky enough we were at his house, not in some bar or somethin', especially because I took the tape where they had recorded it and made it disappear ...

Some better songs from me;Darth Wong wrote:I just noticed that many of the responses in this thread were about songs evoking negative emotions rather than positive ones
Blind Guardian - And Then There Was Silence. Always gets me riled up.
Beatles - Twist and Shout. Puts a smile on my face, most of thier stuff does actually.

Some more:
Rolling Stones - Paint it Black
Self-explanatory.
The Army's version of the Caisson Song. The link is only the first verse, unfortunately.
Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing
I swear, a fellow flutist I had a crush on in high school really did think of nothing but butterflies, moonbeams, zebras, and fairy tales.

Guns N' Roses - Civil War
Every time I hear this song I am reminded of how far we have yet to go. It's an incredibly powerful piece, especially near the end. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go listen to it. It's still relevant even today.
Guns N' Roses - Patience
Yeah, anyone who was ever in a relationship or wanted to be in this one will understand this one
Guns N' Roses - Sympathy for the Devil
I prefer it over the Rolling Stones version because I get more of a sense of mischievous evil with it. I can't help but grin to this one.
AC/DC - For Those About To Rock
I can't help but blast this one. Every time I listen to it I am reminded of every badass and every hero I have ever watched or read about. I imagine them kicking great amounts of ass every time the cannon is fired.
The Seatbelts - Gotta Knock a Little Harder
The slow buildup gets my heart pumping and the lyrics get my spirit flowing - it really makes me feel that if I just knock a little harder, I'll get through the door.
The Seatbelts - Blue
Just fucking depressing.
KISS - God Gave Rock N' Roll To You
Yeah, so I'm not Christian, but this is just a knock-down, drag-out kickass feel-good song. Any time you're not satisfied with your life just listen to this song.
There are a lot more that inspire an emotional reaction in me, but these are the biggies.

Basically the last half of Pink Floyd's The Wall. I'd rather not go into too much detail.

Well. Either it's because the first half is building up, or because the second half is just plain sad.SPOOFE wrote:What? Not enough emotion in the first half?
