Have we seen anything like this in my lifetime? I don't think so. Jesus.

You were probably alive for the '74 ( ? ) quake in China.

I await another source on this, although it's probably accurate. I hope not.

This is truly frightening on awe levels.

There are really no real words to express the thoughts of trying to comprehend what has honestly happened.

Jesus, then the total lost must be phenomenal.

Make no mistake, this is the biggest natural disaster in recent years, and I mean on area of destruction and not just bodycount. The China quake can't quite rival this tsunami in that respect.

U.S. aircraft continued to fly relief missions, though helicopters from the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln had to refuel elsewhere after the Lincoln moved out of Indonesian waters after the Indonesian government refused permission for U.S. training flights over its territory.

Unfortunately, the Tsunami is only a part of their problems:

Until just then, I'd never heard of this Chinese earthquake you guys have mentioned.

That number, it's unthinkable to me.

I quite agree that the reactions of the world to disasters is not proportional to the deathtolls involved. You could compare this to the reactions to airplane crashes and car crashes respectively: car crashes kill more people but it's the plane crashes command our attentions. Humans are just irrational like that, I guess. Still, that is no reason to be dismissive of the whole thing, is it?

Life sucks, then you die. :?

But really, what can you do? If you focus on all the death and suffering in the world, you'll never have time to try and be happy in your own life. We all have the right to try and pursue that. That inevitably means you have to turn a blind eye to the world once in awhile.

All I can say is that when I die, I know the world will keep turning and people will go on with their lives being happy or being miserable. It's just how it is. Life isn't fair. Never was, never will be. :(
