No 1 tip for CS - follow everyone else, at the BACK of the group. Everyone will (on pub servers) run through one of two chokepoints in any map, get mown down, then spam you with 'hurry up and die' while you take advantage of the decimation of the enemy team to plant your bombs or whatever. Happens every time, even round after round after round. :)
Try a different server. What you just described hardly happens on the servers I play on.

As for the bugs. If shooting through walls is the only known "bug" then CS is bug free. You're suppose to be able to shoot through walls with the rifles.
Until you know the maps and can snipe people through DSP errors and tiny tiny holes in tables/crates. Then you will get kicked all the time for 'OMG hax hax hx wtf???'.
Try a different server. This has happened to me maybe twice ever since I started playing CS which was about 5 years ago

Whats that? Physics? Who knew a 7.62mm round could go through a quarter inch think wood door with suffecent force to pop some poor smucks skull on the other side

Thats part of the game... not a bug

As for your question

Deathmatch is... Deathmatch, shoot everything you see and you'll do fine, Counterstrike is a little more ceberal, for advice, follow a teammate with a shotgun/smg and you'll do fine, learn the maps following the paths the other players take
Agreed. You've been able to shoot through certain objects for years in CS.

Thankfully, its not a bug, but even if it was, its not the only bug there is, theres enough bugs to create a stutter effect.

They ported that to the HL engine.

I'd suggest you wait for Insurgency or Hostile Intent to come out on the HL2 engine. From what I've heard, INS is scheduled for it's first release Q2 2005.

CS:S is basically CS 1.6 ported to HL2 with even more inaccurate weaponmodels. The maps look nice tho.

As a player, I beg to differ, CS1.6 patched to hell was good.
CS:S is an entirly new game with the same concept, maps, and models, but a very differant implementation, much more noob friendly.

Yeah, it's way easier now to get headshots. However, as for the maps, weird thing is hearing a lot of, mostly, clan's folk discussing how maps 'A' and 'B' (especially Prodigy) are shitty now in Source...
(though I think they only bitch because they're still getting used to them. I've played the maps in CS1.6 and CZ and I can't tell much of a difference)

No no no I don't mean penetration; I mean DSP errors (map problems, not features) and tiny, pixel-wide alignments between geometry that allow you to fire on targets who imagine themselves to be safe. Its funny!

The idea of playing CS seriously seems counterproductive; if I want stimulating tactical action, CS is *NOT* the game I think of.

Shinova, I'm against weapon balancing at all. TS forums were always full of 'oh noes the pistol isn't as good as the scoped silenced rifle, nerf it' threads, and thats gay. Getting pwnzored by rifles? CHOOSE A FUCKING RIFLE. Bah. The 'pattern' recoil isn't an issue for me; however they seemed to increase the recoil significantly, a balance I don't believe was necessary. As you say, entirely taste, but an issue which took TS from the top of my play list to not having played it for years. Its not that fucking hard to shoot things, and conefire is the devil. Shame really, 2.1 fixed alot of outstanding bugs.

Well, in Prodigy they did change the timing, if your really dedicated(or bored) take a stop watch and check it yourself.

The only maps which have 0% change are the Dusts. :P

Way to go... oh wait, the amount of players using this 'exploit' is nil, maybe you should be playing on other servers, or find yourself a clan and see if they don't know tactical action.

If the idea of playing CS seriously seems counter-productive to you, then maybe its not the right game for you, but don't knock it for flaws that do not exist, or barely make a differance.

Find a CAL-I level clan, or watch a CPL match, the teamwork there beats most other games.

Nahh, I'm only there to get as many kills as possible within the time limit
Really, 2000AD, if you want to play fast rounds with chaotic and unpredictable teammates, you've got CS: Source. However, if you're more interested in teamwork, there's always DoD and TS, soon to be entering the Source.

Serious tatics? Try a good World at World Tourment Match in BF-1942

Well, in ANY world level tournament match your going to have tactics, no matter what game, even UT.

But some games just ooze tactics like its their blood, BF for example, AA, Rainbow Six, etc.
