Mansion:Awesome, though the physics effects are overdone, alot of the physics is actulyl useful, if the light drops from the ceiling, it goes off
Another thing that shows up in both demo is the over-done HDR, its a nice feature but ENOUGH.
Backyard: Meh, the only nice thing was the natural HDR, and the day and light cycle. The Depth of field was overdone, if thats the in-game ratio I would be a very annoyed gamer.
The engine is awesome, but i'm intrested, they mentioned DX9.1 Hardware, what do they refer to?
However, they can't beat UE3.

All those in 640 resolution, and no AA and AF, imagine that scaled up.

Yawn. Go watch a video on the Unreal 3 engine.
No matter the engine, it's an impressive (and, for me, being an aspiring CG professional, invigorating) thought to imagine that in the near future, the distinction between film-quality effects and game-quality effects will be obsolete.

Re: Tech Demo: Next-generation Real-time 3D engine
Main problem with the UE 3.0 engine is the lack of object 'properties' such as 'electrical' as we see in this demo and in STALKER.Praxis wrote:

But thats fixable.
More intresting to me would be the tools used in both of these engines, today its far more importent "How Well can you build this" then "How many techinical stuff is in there", look at UT2K4, the ammount of sheer work needed to be done for those recent engines requires something thats easy to work with.

Sorry but I've been spoiled by BF2, and Half Life 2, my next gen engine of my dreams must have ass-kicking physics and can do everything at once with the viewdistance of a flight sim and the detail of Unreal 3

To be fair, the demo is from a bug's POV, so naturally the depth of field isn't going to be that great.

Long ago in a distant land, I, Aku, the shape-shifting Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil,
but a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow
was struck, I tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is law! Now, the fool
seeks to return to the past, and undo the future that is Aku...
