Nah Vendetta, you've got it wrong, they couldn't afford the insurance for a Golf GTi, so they'll probably have the bottom range model and nick a GTi badge off some wreck in the scrapyard.Vendetta wrote:ricers? No, they have tricked out Vauxhall Novas and Volkwagen GTi's. Largely because they're the only cars a Chav can steal enough money to afford.

Ah true, they probably couldn't afford to run a GTi genuine model anyway, so they just pick the first VW rustbucket that's one MOT away from the Scrapyard then spend about ten times what the car is worth on aftermarket accessories.
One ned in Ayr has a metallic shocking pink Nova with blacked out windows. Why the blacked out windows when a paper bag over his head would have sufficed I don't know.

it´s relevant because it´s one of these fun facts that newspapers love to place in their articles.Illuminatus Primus wrote: Who gives a flying fuck? That's because the nation of Germany went fucking insane and tried to destroy civilization in Europe. That's about as relevent as saying, "if you took a woman on Miami Beach during Spring Break and transported her to Iran, she'd be arrested or stoned." How is it fucking relevent?
This is much ado about jack shit. The last two costume parties I attended featured all sorts of costumes that were in poor taste:
A chick in a pink bodysuit smeared with fake blood and wearing a giant coat hanger on her head -The Botched Abortion
A white guy dressed as Thomas Jefferson and his black girlfriend dressed as Sally Hemmings
A guy dressed as a priest and his girlfriend dressed as an altarboy
These are just the ones I remember. But each party gets more and more outrageous with the costumes, and I gather that similar parties in the UK do likewise. What's the big deal?

The chances of him ever being King are rather remote, that is why he used to be referred to as Harry the spare.Chmee wrote: I'm guessing that nobody at your party was 3rd in line to be King of a country that spent tens of thousands of lives defeating the Nazis ..... juuuust a guess.

His grandmother has another decade or two in her yet, then it’s his father (if he isn't dead) and then his brother by which time his brother should have offspring of his own.
With that said he should be a little more careful, he may end up in the hot seat whether he wants it or not like his Great Grandfather did.

Absolutely, but #3 is wayyyy too high up the chain to be acting like a prat in public. Yeah yeah he's young, he lost his mother ... I'm not saying there aren't reasons for this fuck-up, and I don't want the guy branded for life .... but it's a major fuck-up. He's getting the perks of being a royal, so the next time he's skiing in Switzerland or bodysurfing in the Bahamas, he better take a moment to remember there are duties, too.TheDarkling wrote:The chances of him ever being King are rather remote, that is why he used to be referred to as Harry the spare.Chmee wrote: I'm guessing that nobody at your party was 3rd in line to be King of a country that spent tens of thousands of lives defeating the Nazis ..... juuuust a guess.

I'm sorry, how is this a serious fuck up?
No, really - how is this in ANY WAY serious? This is just another bog-standard Royal 'scandal', which really just means it's amusing, hardly 'serious' or a 'fuck up'. I'm interested in how this could be construed in any meaningful way to be anything other than a trivial and irrelevant event.

Indeed, remembering his duties is something he should be very aware of (again the example of his great grandfather should come to mind) however I’m not sure this is a mayor mistake, dating a catholic, now that would be a major mistake.Yeah yeah he's young, he lost his mother ... I'll go back to an example I used earlier ... if one of the Bush girls was photo'd at a sorority party with a swastika tattoo, there would be an uproar here .... and I'd agree with it. You're a public figure with lavish privileges, show some awareness.

You're not getting me; I asked how this was a serious fuck up.
On my spectrum, AIDS in Africa counts as a serious fuck up. The War in Iraq; a serious fuck up. The Tsunami; serious.
This is just trivial. Like you said, if you or I did something like this no one would bat an eyelid. The same standard should apply to those who are more privileged than us, but human nature overrides rationality and something like this, which let's admit is totally irrelevant, get's elevated to 'serious' news. He's not a nazi, he's just fooling around. People then make ridiculous appeals to motive, and say "Oh he thinks he's rebelling" or "He doesn't have an appreciation for his country's history" which is total bullshit. You can judge that based on one fucking photo? Give me a break.
He wore a costume with the swastika armband. Some people's oversensitive feelings got hurt. Boo-fucking-hoo. It's not relevant to the kind of person he is, or the kind of qualities he might need were he to become King (unlikely, but he is in line to the throne). He's young. These things happen. But it doesn't justify blowing this 'story' way out of proportion.

Ah, okay, this is a matter of personal perspective, taste, call it what you will. To me, any public figure wearing a swastika is essentially giving the finger to every Jew in his country. It's not just any other costume to me, it is a symbol of hatred and evil. Not theatrical evil like Darth Vader or Satan, but real-life evil that millions of people can remember from personal experience. When you are to some degree a symbol of your nation, of its government, of its values, then no, you don't wear a symbol of evil that stands for one of the greatest atrocities in human history in the minds of millions of your fellow citizens.Stofsk wrote:You're not getting me; I asked how this was a serious fuck up.

It's a costume party. You know, where people dress up, drink heavily, clown around and make fools of themselves. I'm sure the prince is going to have to wear ashes, sack cloth, a hair shirt, make a trip to the Wailing Wall, then four seances, three group hugs and further orgies of political maturbation, culminating with a pop-shot at the Holocaust Memorial and Auschwitz. What could have been handled with a little humor and grace is now going to defile the death site where countless people were gassed and cremated in order to quell tabloid hysteria. What a sick joke.

This is correct only so long as Harry wants to play that game.
