A friend linked this to me today, and I was absolutely flabbergasted. This quote especially made my stomach churn,
"Normally, Banda Aceh is closed to foreigners and closed to the gospel. But, because of this catastrophe, our partners there are earning the right to be heard and providing entrance for the gospel," WorldHelp said in an appeal for funds on its Web site this week.
Though I am not surprised at this, it still seems fundamentally wrong to be celebrating such a horrible catastrophe as a basis for conversion of those without guidance. Especially under the opinion that they have "earned the right". Thoughts?
PS- (Yes, I'm new. Hello! If I am making any errors, please correct me. I do not mean to be bothersome.)
"The rest of the poem plays upon that pun. On the contrary, says Catullus, although my verses are soft (molliculi ac parum pudici in line 8, reversing the play on words), they can arouse even limp old men. Should Furius and Aurelius have any remaining doubts about Catullus' virility, he offers to fuck them anally and orally to prove otherwise." - Catullus 16, Wikipedia
It's par for the course with those religious sorts, but still, such rampant oppertunism is sickening.
Welcome to the board, and from your choice of first post (not spam or me-tooing, well done ) you're off on the right foot...
...it's the left one next btw.
"Prodesse Non Nocere." "It's all about popularity really, if your invisible friend that tells you to invade places is called Napoleon, you're a loony, if he's called Jesus then you're the president." "I'd drive more people insane, but I'd have to double back and pick them up first..." "All it takes for bullshit to thrive is for rational men to do nothing." - Kevin Farrell, B.A. Journalism. *shrug* not that I like the fundies, but between listening to some babble head spew garbage while he gives me food and water, and starving......meh.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red
Hmmm, I couldn't have screwed that post up worse, if I had tried.
Help, MOD?!?!

"These children are going to be raised in a Christian environment. That's no guarantee they will choose to be Christians."
"First and foremost, our intention is not to evangelize but to show the love of Jesus Christ through our acts of compassion"
"We are not using this open window of disaster to move in and set up a beachhead for evangelism. That's not the spirit of what we're trying to accomplish. ... We just want to show the genuineness of our faith. We have no ulterior motive here."
See, everything's cool, thay said so.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.
