Or you can play direct-IP, like everyone but Yosemite tends to do

if your playing Eldar against standard/hard AI, make massed emplacements at the entrances to your base. Distorts at the core ringed by scatter lasers. Have webway gates there also (heal and reinforcements). Have some infantry also, like four fullly reinforced squads of guardians.Azazel wrote:I'm not that good yet, can maybe do ok against a standard cpu. yeah i know. haven't really played it that much. and I don't know like any strategies to use.
Yeah, I got Rome Total War when I got DoW. I like both.
go for a massive swarm of Wraithlords upgraded w/ brightlances (the most powerful close combat attack of any unit in the game, and the lances make em good vs vehicles & buildings), lead by an avatar if possible. Back em up with swarms of infantry of your choice if you can, but make sure the wraiths are the ones soaking up damage.
I like to use warp spiders (they shred through infantry, have better numbers than the dark reapers, and the haywires compliment the brightlance) and guardians w/ grav platforms.

Turrets can hold off attacks somewhat, but massed troop concentrations will almost always be better against the enemy than simply turrets, unless you've got to guard several entrances.
If you're gonna turret with Eldar, make sure you make a few of them into D-Cannons. Tears apart vehicles and turns infantry morale into nothing.

The most powerful close combat attack title belongs to the Squiggoth, actually. Or the Assault Terminator, given that each hit stuns its target as does each following hit.
Also I would suggest leaving the Wraithlord's Starcannon in, as it will help it break infantry squads faster. Other than for a few specific purposes, it's better to go fire prisms than wraithlords. If you want good anti vehicle/building, nothing serves that purpose better than a bunch of brightlance platforms. You can build those at webways.

If you're facing space marines or Chaos, definetly DO NOT build warp spiders unless you expect to face a horde of scouts or cultist squads. Warp Spiders do excellent damage versus light infantry but do piss against heavy infantry against SM and Chaos.
Get masses of Dark Reapers with a Banshee squad or two to deal with jumping assault marines or raptor squads. 1 for 1, a Dark Reaper squad will destroy a full-sized marine squad unless it's got all four heavy bolters, and that takes more resources to get than just a DR squad, so you're bound to have more Dark Reapers than the opponent has Heavy Bolter squads.
And make sure the enemy never closes into close combat with your Dark Reapers. They suck at CC, and will get torn to pieces by just about any unit. That's where your Banshees or Wraithlords come in, and take out the units trying to melee your Dark Reapers.
And Haywires are nice for the occasional turret or against a landspeeder, but for real anti-vehicle, you want a nice line of brightlance platforms. Enough of them will make short work of any vehicle in the game.
What's her bust size!?

the D in D-cannon stands for Distort. To my knowledge, there is no other support platform upgrade.
I'm using the wraithlords to soak up damage and tear through the enemy at close combat. eight or nine of these guys, lead by an Avatar, will rip apart anything the AI sets up. Especially when backed up by infantry. And I'm using "most powerful" as in sheer damage for a non-unique unit in close combat. They will rip through more than their numbers of terminators, assault terminators, dreadnoughts, killer kans, big meks, and defilers, especially when equipped with brightlances.
true about the Spiders. Reapers do much better against heavy infantry, but against the AI, with a solid team of wraithlords and an avatar ripping through your enemy, you'll find it more effective to have guardians w/ grav platforms (fleet of foot and grav boost both on) mopping up the demoralized squads of infantry.

I am soooo glad I didn't pick that game to test my Eldar raiding strategies.

SDnet team: Shinova, White Haven, and Uraniun235, versus 3 Harder skill computers on Mortalis, Annihilate+Control Area.
SDnet wins!!
It was one HELL of a game. We were practically on our knees for most of the match. All of us nearly died several times at some point in the game, but we finally fought back with Defilers, Dreadnaughts, and Termies.
Was a glorious day! SDnet Victor!!
