Mrs. Spade didn't raise any children dippy enough to

an assistant district attorney, and a stenographer

lol

Lofton: How much money have you made peddling this stuff, Mr. Zappa?
Zappa: Millions of dollars, Mr. Lofton. Millions of dollars.

Zappa was a pretty big media figure for a little while there during the scandals over lyrics, and his logic made a nice counterpoint to the other position, which was entirely devoid of any evidence whatsoever and existed solely on anecdotal stories and appeals to emotion.

Fascist theocracy...

I have to wonder after watching this if anything ever really changes in this country, in terms of becoming "more conservative" or "more liberal." In general, I think there's been a consistent "liberal" trend, and the occasional setbacks never really stop this process for very long.

It was nice to see someone just being straight, though. Zappa was right on with everything he was saying and every time they asked him a question to try to catch him off gurad, he just picked up and kept on going. We need more people like this in the actual political field.

God, that was hilarious. Observe as a self-important toad is bent over at the waist.

Well, the context of the time included daily attacks by the press against musicians like Zappa, usually based on religious morality etc., and Reagan did appoint a batshit insane Interior Secretary who thought that it was unnecessary to save the environment because the Rapture was at hand.

Sure, I just think the accusations of fascist theocracy are seeming less pertinent and frightening, given that it's "happened before," so to speak.

Well, Zappa's gone, but Dee Snyder is still here, and he made some good points at the PMRC hearings along with Zappa way back when

Snyder Link

Here's another statement by Zappa. I can't find the PMRC hearing transcripts anywhere.

If I heard correctly, didn't that guy consider the Beach Boys to be satanic?
