Why all the money in GTA3?

I recently bought GTA3, having played 1,2 and Vice City. And I noticed you get a lot of money for doing missions.

What does this money go towards? I'm well armed and the only thing I ever buy is body armour and the occasoinal paint/repair.

For reference, I'm up the second island in LC.

Not much if I recall correctly, outside of weapons and such. VC and SA correct the over abundance of money issue.

GTA3 is broken in that way; you still get money for just breaking the law. Its a holdover from GTA1 where 'money' was another name for 'points'. By GTA:SA, its less gamey, but still silly.

At first, I thought things cost less in Vice City to show inflation, or something like that. But in GTA 3, the only things to spend money on were weapons, repairs, arrests, hospital bills, and hookers, so at the end of the game, you have a whole bunch of money and nothing to spend it on.
