I too greatly liked Gladiator and saw it several times. In fact, I know of nobody that thought it "sucked." Also very much liked Fellowship of the Ring. Read the books twice (so far) and saw the movie five times...

Yes, and the Nazgul lost their original bodies during the siege of Barad-dur by the Last Alliance. The bodies you see in the movie was given to them by Sauron after his ascension.

They DID, dummy. Look at where they're hiding under the tree root. Pip was about to throw up, and Merry looked ready to run. Not to mention all the bugs that started crawling towards the Nazgul.

Please just stop typing now. You've voiced your opinion, which every other person with any semblance of tastes disagrees with. The movie kicks ass, in story, music, effects and overall presentation. Perhaps there was just too much there for your miniscule brain to pick up...? Just a thought...

As for movies that I thought sucked but other people liked: "Swingers." Argh, that movie bored the hell out of me. The only thing I liked was calling people 'money.'

"The Talented Mr. Ripley" had me in tears wishing it would end, and "Legends of the Fall" made me pull my hair out in frustration that I couldn't escape. I tried to stay in the ladies' room as long as I could, but the people I was seeing it with came to find me after about 20 minutes to make sure I was ok and dragged me back into the theatre...

And for movies that I like and tell other people to watch but actually suck: "The Faculty."

It's an awful movie, but I love it anyway. Not sure why, I just do. I tell people that it sucks before I tell them to watch it, though.

actually, now that I think about it, I believe that the Nazgul had very little semblance of a body. After all, no one in the mortal world could see them (only their cloaks), and they couldn't see people in the mortal world

It seems that you haven't read the books, otherwise you would have realized that Peter Jackson did not invent the story, so he shouldn't even be given the credit. I actually think he destroyed the original storyline. Did you know that Saruman dies in the Two Towers movie?

I enjoyed the fighting A LOT, but the ending was lame and the plot wasn't so good.

First of all, I never said that Peter Jackson invented the story.
Second of all, every other person I have talked to about this movie who has read the books, including myself, thinks that Peter Jackson stuck to the story reasonably well, considering the time restraint of turning such a detailed book into a film.
Lastly, I apologize if you took my 'insult' seriously. There wasn't a smirking smiley face, so I just decided to leave one out. Since you've been around here longer than I, I assumed (incorrectly) that you would know I wasn't serious. I apologize for that.

It was good. Whats your ideal kung-fu movie? Some dubbed POS where every second line is "You killed my Father/Master/Wife/Stoat! Prepare to Die!"? Huh?

It was a classic wuxia movie. If you want a completely mad and excellent kung-fu film watch "The 36th Chamber of Shaolin" or "Five Fingers of Death"... And watch the sub-titled versions.

Blair witch Project was horrible. Mortal Combat: Annihilation was horrendous. Waiting to Exhale was a crime against humanity.

Again, the story moves away from the original in the later movies. I guess my problem with the movie is that it did not live up to my expectations. I hear everyone praising it, so perhaps I might be in the wrong.

As for the "insult", I will tell you this. As a member of the AIIF, I post (or at least lurk) on troll-infested boards, where insults are common. This, when I read your "insult", I automatically assumed it was genuine. Sorry.

CTHD was an art house movie that somehow gained a mainstream following. It seems to me that many people liked it because it was the in thing to like it.

The editing sucked as well as the direction. The Lo subplot is totally unneccessary as well as how it was done. The individual vs. duty themes would have been better with the "forbidden" love between the Li Mu Bai and the Michelle Yeoh character tied to the outlaw life vs. filial life of Jen-Yu. Oh, and the end was a copout. Jen should have taken some responsibility for her actions and found the center between outlaw martial life and duty by staying at the temple to train, eventually finding "adventure" when she had the maturity to handle what it meant. The fighting was decent, the training hall fight was pretty cool, but overall the wirework did not make sense. The fighters are supposed to be powerful humans, not magic. They shouldn't fly. Oh and it was not Woo-Ping's best work.

In my opinion it was an okay movie, it was not some masterpiece as some would claim however.

I should probably suck it up and try watching it again since the first time I gave it a shot was back when it first came out on video. Certainly my tastes in film have become broader and little bit strange so it's possible I'd like the film.

The whole Dennis Hopper "minute man" thing was creepy though.

It was okay, not the best Chinese movie Ive seen. But for many Americans this was the first real Chinese movie they had seen. So I think it got a lot of praise for being different or the novelty of being a chinese movie.

The ending sucked but if youve seen a lot of Chinese movies its nothing new. They rarely show people living happily ever after.

Now the movie that I saw that made me wanna claw my eyes out and sue the movie theater for several hours of my life back was THE THIN RED LINE.

The problem with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is that it's based on a book that if turned into a movie with all of the plot in it would take something like six to ten hours to play out fully. I wasn't so very impressed with the movie, but when I heard about the book, it started making sense. Basically they cut away stuff to squeeze it into two hours, and a lot of that stuff was important plot-wise.

Movies that have been praised that really sucked: Anything by David Lynch (yes, Blue Velvet is one of his, and about the only one that is watchable, though still torture).

Somebody said Any Given sunday was bad, but I actually liked it. I think the only reason they showed it here was because Al Pacino starred in it, but strangely enough, I think it was good. Given that I think American Football is crap (hey, I'm a European, after all), that's really something.
