I watched it on cable TV in 2001 then as soon as the DVDs became available in my country I bought them.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

At the late, great UA-150 cinema, under the dome, the week of release ... some friends and I had heard about it and road-tripped the two hours from our home town to check it out. We sat through 2 shows.

Mrs. Spade didn't raise any children dippy enough to
make guesses in front of a district attorney,
an assistant district attorney, and a stenographer.

In the movie theater in my hometown, 1977. There was a Three Stodges short that played before the movie started.

Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

The first time I saw SW and knew it was SW? 1996. The very first? It would be ROTJ and IIRC 1995. I won't forget that viewing because the video quality was bad enough that the channel carried a disclaimer, there was quiet some static and extremely bad lighting.
It would take the beauty of ANH for me to become a true SW fan.

Rental. 1980-something. ANH.
The first one I saw in the movie theather was ROTJ. I got invited by some dad's friend to his own private cinema for a pre-screening, I was quite young. (so chances are I saw it before anyone in this board
Didn't watch ESB till much later, on TV I think when they showed the whole trilogy. Late 80's-Early 90's I think, can't remember.

One amazing summer night on my neighbour's lawn, watching it on a projector...
I don't think I'll ever forget that day as long as I live.

I can't name the year, but I know where I was. We vacation with a bunch of Dad's friends from college. We were at the beach that year.

Some time in the 1990's before 1997. The oldest I could have been was 11. I watched the non-SE on VHS, and then saw the SE when they eventually came out.

Darth Vader scared the everliving shit out of me, wee lad that I was.
But I was enraptured. From my earliest memories, science fiction was always my favorite genre. Of course, given that my parents were both science fiction fans and had an extensive library of science fiction books, it was something of a logical taste. One of the first 'grown-up' books my mother read to me was Heinlein's 'Red Planet', for example.
