Sometimes it doesnt pay to read cnn. I have a friend that grew up there so its hits a little close to home. And the sad thing is the marines put him on leave pending action for his use of marijuana. I much prefer the way it works in my unit you even suspect of pissing hot you are confined to quaters intill they decide what to do with you.
TYLER, Texas (CNN) -- A Marine who served in Iraq was arrested Friday in connection with the kidnapping and killing of a Wal-Mart cashier snatched from a parking lot in Texas while leaving work.
Police said a man forced 19-year-old Megan Leann Holden into her truck late Wednesday as she was leaving work in Tyler, Texas, and drove off with her.
She was found Friday shot to death in a ditch off of Interstate 20 near Stanton, Texas, about 400 miles west of where she was taken, said Tyler Police Chief Gary Swindle

He was in trouble for smoking dope, not a violent crime. In retrospect, it would seem obvious, but come on. If we knew then what we know now, his parents should have strangled him in the crib.
What pisses me off is Wal-Mart allowing an employee, a teenage girl, to walk to her truck unescorted late at night. Can't let security or other emploees see her to her truck. Those 45 seconds are better spent stocking shelves. Every place I've worked -high or low crime, retail, you name it- has insisted that female employees (especially teenage girls) be escorted to their cars after sundown. I'll never buy anything from that scumbag company again. HEY WAL-MART!
Yesterday, some guy at another forum I visit posted about how a close friend of his had been abducted and killed while getting off of work at Walmart. Now I read this. Fucked up.

a-fucking-men! My wife teaches kindergarten in an inner city school and they ALWAYS find a way to mak sue that tthe biggest, burlyest member of the maintenece staff walks the teachers to their cars. They are in a South Providence ghetto and have a limited budget, but they find a way to do it. Wal Mart is a multi billion dollar corporation. FOR SHAME!
If there is a silver lining, i do believe that most states consider walking to you car in the parking lot covered under one's scope of employment, so Wal Mart will bear a significant civil liability.

I know because I look like a mountain man out of Central Casting: I was assigned "bouncer" duty. But it doesn't take someone who resembles a welder to keep shitstains at bay. Several years ago I had a part time job in a book store with a bunch of college girls. Even when I wasn't there, they all went out together and nobody drove out of the parking lot until they were sure everyone's car started. Sure enough, from time to time there were creeps lurking out there, but just the fact that there were all these extra eyes and ears meant that I only had to use my size 15 boot once and only had to threaten to use it twice.
I never had any idea that such caution was necessary in those situations. Walking to one's car strikes fear into their heart?? I suppose it makes sense with those circumstances, but geez. Although my lack of understanding is probably linked to my resemblance to a psychotic terrorist...
The stuff nightmares are made of... I don't see why no-one could have escourted her, either.

Should Furius and Aurelius have any remaining doubts about Catullus' virility, he offers to fuck them anally and orally to prove otherwise." - Catullus 16, Wikipedia

My job never did that.
"Katie, is someone guna come pick you up?"
"Yeah."
"Ok. We need you to wait out in the parking lot, we're locking everything up."

An ex-Walmart worker friend of mine was assualted after sundown, after she got off work. Guess where? Yep, the fucking parking lot. She wasn't seriously hurt, but she quit the next day.

Apparently, you're not a chick.
Bad part of town + high school/ college girls = muggers and other assorted scumbags and weirdos
Posh part of town + high school/ college girls = dogged muggers and other assorted creeps and scumbags, one of who had to be kicked hard right in the nuts before the police could be called.
What a bunch of assholes. When I worked at Frank's Nursery, a company (now out of business) that didn't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of, they'd pay at least one of the male employees to stay behind until all the women had gotten to their cars safely. And this was a small parking lot.

Since Wal-Mart has a habit of not giving a shit about its employees, it seems the scum of the earth congregate around the parking lots at night waiting for a girl to come out alone and undefended. Easy pickings, and it's only a matter of time until one comes out.

It's bastards like him that stain the uniform. I regret the day that scum ever even heard of the Corp and I am ashamed that we didn't catch this and deal with it before something like this happened.
You've got nothing to be ashamed of. This guy was going to be disciplined over smoking pot. If he had been charged with attempted murder by the Corps, you'd have a point. Every so often, one gets through. He'll be introduced to the joys of the Texas penal system. Huntsville will take care of him.

You don't still work there, do you?
I put my 2 weeks in a few days ago, but for completely unrelated reasons (college and things of the like)

Well don't set foot in the parking lot after dark without someone going with you. There's no telling how many humanoids will see the news and say "Hey, there's an idea! Let's mug people at Wal-Mart!"
