Of course some, if not most given the wages, of us rent a cops just do it for a job, and sure as hell dont want to be cops, so kindly keep your uninformed genralisations to yourself.
No, I remain firm in my opinion, and I will vocalize it freely whenever I take the notion. My job brings me into contact with security guards on a not infrequent basis, and I've seen enough of them to know that in the vast majority of cases my contempt for them is fully justified. When I see a damn rent-a-cop trying to act like he's on a bloody S.W.A.T. team, right down to wearing BDUs and a tactical thigh holster, so he can guard a fucking hotel lobby...
I have a damn good reason for thinking he's a wannabe. When I see a 5'2" female security guard who weighs 350 pounds if she weighs an ounce, I have a damn good reason to think she's an unfit slob. When I see a guy with visible rust
caked on the sights of his holstered gun, I have a damn good reason for thinking he's a worthless slug. And when I see a guard overreact, and jerk an unarmed man out of a vehicle at gunpoint, simply because the man called him a name (and thereby get himself, his security company, and the store who hired the company sued), I have damn good reason for thinking he's a fucking idiot who should never have been given a cap pistol, let alone a loaded firearm. I've dealt with dozens of security guards over the years. So far I've seen exactly two who did not prove themselves to be incompetent idiots.
It's hardly my fault if you chose a profession so low in prestige, and so full of oxygen thieves, so don't be surprised at hearing it insulted. Don't be surprised to find yourself a victim of guilt by association either. Maybe you're one of the small percentage of competent ones. I don't know. But you're not about to change my opinion of rent-a-cops; I've seen too many of your colleagues in action.
