Ever meet any celebrities?

Post by Frank Hipper »

Ever meet anyone famous? I worked for a promoter once as a runner/loader, met a lot of bands, some of whom I actually hung out/partied with.

I was actually within 20 feet of Abe Vigoda over at college, but it was a bit crowded since the film class was there.

However, we did get him to plug our TV show :D

I've seen a few but never met any.

We get some at our hospital from time to time but I don't have much direct contact with the patients.

I met Alanis Morissette while I was dating her cousin's best friend back in university. Nice lady. Really obsessed with anything you ask her about. Try it. Ask her about, say, bacon and watch her go off.

I met several WWF wrestlers a year back when a group of them were staying at a hotel where I was staying for an out-of-town convention.

Also Dan Aykroyd for a handshake...

And back in the very late 70s I met and have the autograph of David Prowse, Peter Mayhew and Anthony Daniels. It was actually funny with Prowse. All the kids and parents were flocking around Mark Hamill and there's Prowse, sitting all by himself. No one knew who he was. So, I got a nice twenty-minute conversation with the man and a personally signed autograph. It was cool.

What else...I can't recall. There's been a few others, mostly people you've never heard of.

My wife has had better luck. She's met Bryan Adams (the singer) when his roadies changed her TIRE when his tour bus passed her stuck car on the road coming back from a show she'd seen. Nice guy, apparently.

She's also met a slew of rock groups and other bands back when she was in university. She worked her way through school as a night manger at McDonald's downtown, and had all sorts of odd and interesting people drop by in the midnight hours.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

You really want me to list everyon? Ok, here's the beginning of the list of who I can remember off the top of my head....

John deLancie
Colm Meany
Walter Koenig
Denise Crosby (she embarrased the hell out of a friend of mine)
James Doohan
Robin Curtis
Sarek, about a year before he passed away
(names flying from head again) Ensign Ro (man, that woman was a toothpick!)
Alexandra Tydings (from Xena)
Half the cast of B5
David Prowse, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, um... names are flying from my head... R2 and Boba Fett
Michonne (the bounty hunter from Ep1) and the model for Mara Jade
Ted Raimi (he's so cool!)
Sala from the Indy movies (why can I not remember HIS name either?!?)
Bruce Campbell (he is hilarious! I have pictures of him running away from this transvestite. I mean, this guy really looked like a woman.)

Tim Zahn, Aaron Allston, Mike Stackpole, Peter David, Robert Asprin, KJA (yeah, scary), Rebecca (his wife), a ton of other writers.

And that's just off the top of my head

And how did you manage that, Kelly? At conventions?

Anyhow, about the only relatively well known person I've met is General Gustav Hägglund heads the European Union Military Board or whatever the organ is that handles Union defense policy coordination.

Other's I've met...

Tony Todd
the guy who played Gowron
Brinke Stevens (she does a lot of stunts)

I came very close to Harrison Ford and Dave Letterman while in New York.

I literally bumped into Matthew Mccaunaghay(sp?) at a men's room in Laguardia airport. I've met Rush Limbaugh (actually very nice and cordial in person - rather surprising). Kofi Annan, the UN secretary general, exchanged words with Bill Clinton (mostly just a polite how are you). I got invited to Senator Herb Kohl's (D-WI) birthday party once, and I went to highy school with Senator Russ Feingold's daughter (the Feingold of the McCain-Feingold act). I've met a state senator now charged with at least 20 counts of fraud, and I've met the Algerian ambassador to the UN.

I ran into the guy who played the Fonz from Happy Days at a football game in Camp Randall Stadium. Walked past Roger Moore (of James Bond fame) on a New York city street.

This actually doesnt surprise me. Several local radio hosts say they worked with him in the beginning of his career and all said he is a really nice guy, despite his politics.

As for me, Ive seen a few celebrities but never really met them.

Doogie Howser: I was in Santa Cruz and walked across a bridge over the creek near the boardwalk. He was walking in the opposite direction with the actor from growing pains. The youngest boy?? Anyway, all my friends noticed them but i didnt. We just about brushed shoulders but I didnt pay any attention to his face.

Ellen: I was in a LA clothing store with friend just to say hello to one of the employee and Ellen was looking at jeans.

I once had lunch with a porn star. I went down to Marina Del Rey to install a computer for a remote office. The guy that worked in the office ( it was his downstairs bedroom ) bought me lunch and invited his neighboor. Turns out she had done a few porn movies. I was struck by now "normal" she seemed.

From the year I lived in Ottawa I probably met half the Canadian government, well, maybe not that many but I did bump into a whole bunch of them that year.

Most of the famous people I've met are singers

Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders
Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace
Chantal Kreviazuk
Tori Amos
Sarah McLachlan
Sarah Slean
Emm Gryner
Tara McLean

Went to school with Estella Warren before she became a supermodel
Bumped into Terry Farrell at an airport about 6 years ago, christ is she ever tall.
Met Bill Gates at Comdex several years back. He looks like such a dork but he's also the richest SOB on earth

Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either. :P
