What other Jobs advertise?

Lol, this thread in particular reminds me of just how cynical we all are.
And about recruiters BSing, while you merely know of this in sort of an abstract way as a civilian, once you get into Basic Training you actually get to see the rotten fruit of such ventures. In my platoon alone, we had one bipolar, another with a litany of mental health issues and one with narcolepsy. These people should by no means even have been allowed to get in to Basic. Oh yeah, and I learned in Basic asthma is infectious More recruiter BS. It's im-fucking-possible to BS the CS chamber
I know I'm not helping my position or anything, but I'm not going to apologize for bullshit when I see it. I just wanted to convey that the military isn't the worst job in the world.

How is a profession thats kept you, your family and friends free for over 200 years one of the worst in the universe? If not for the army and marine corp, you'd be drinking tea and shouting "God Save the Queen!" (although, thats not too bad) Its not their fault we have a brainless wonder who wants to invade everything from Afghanistan to Zimbawe. Soldiers don't decide where or who they fight, they go where their told. The only alternative is facing charges of mutiny and possibly treason.

Aya, people have told you this sort of thing before, but let me try again. If you had read the thread, you'd know that people have spent the majority of the thread thus far commenting on that particular comment (except with more substance that what you posted). Since your comment didn't contribute anything worthwhile, why post it?Aya wrote:Man, you are going to be fucked right through your pants for that one.Tom_Aurum wrote:Okay, so the only jobs I've ever seen advertise are, quite literally, the worst jobs in the universe.

You need to look at the career. Many have "entry" level positions that are advertised - either directly, or they use open job fairs, universities, etc... as a recruiting pool. They don't try to conceal them - they are trying to get candidates after all - just figure out where most of their recruits come from (for sciences, universities are a good source) and talk to placement or job facilitators at that institution/society/etc... to find out the time lines.Admiral Valdemar wrote:Incidentally, the best jobs are sometimes not even advertised. If you really want a decent career, then you'll have to work for it. Just because you get qualifications or whatever, doesn't mean the companies will start addressing their correspondences directly to you. I have searched the job section of many science magazines for months and been to numerous job fairs. You should do likewise.
In mine (accounting), they do extensive recruiting at universities, plus you can get lists of places that can accept articling students. After you are finisihed, some jobs are advertised, some use headhunters (my current one), etc... But your contacts are probably the most important since you can generally find out the working conditions of any place within three phone calls.

Okay, maybe I should be a little more clear. I mean television advertisements, in the case of most of them, slickly done. Not want ads you have to go to the twentieth page for, even though I've effectively used them. I beleive last time was for being a valet at the most undersized parking lot in existence, but anyways. That's not what I'm talking about.

That is true, but a majority of jobs go without proper or even any real advertising. That does mean you have to be proactive and ask around, which some companies prefer rather than trawl through many candidates that only applied for the sake of doing so.Jalinth wrote:

Blink... .blink... blink..... serious huh? Where is this?!? I mean a call center is one thing, but the cops actually advertising for employment??? Unless you can somehow turn your T.V. into MPEG I guess I'll have to beleive you.Destructionator XIII wrote:TV job ads are common place here. Where I'm from, there are a number of TV ads for local business's looking for people to work. Also, a call center place here has tons of ads telling the local college people how they offer flexible hours and spending cash pay. We also have commercials with local fire fighters and police officers telling how great their jobs are and informing people of the benefits of becoming one.

Why? Police need recruits, and if they don't get them, they advertise. Same goes for military careers. This is hardly an earth-shattering revelation.Tom_Aurum wrote:Blink... .blink... blink..... serious huh? Where is this?!? You really do have some nerve, don't you? The USAF was the reason my father was able to go to school and become a successful person today. Heck, I've seriously considered military service myself, especially after undergrad college.Tom_Aurum wrote:I'm sorry to say, it's a job that advertises. Yeah, I'd say it to a Marine's face. If you can show me an actually good job that advertises, I'd be half inclined to listen to your argument. But something I find questionable about:
A) the recent stop-loss policy
B) yes, I do have a problem with the war in Iraq and a commander (bush) that can't get his proctologist to find his head
C) a group that preys on the young, the impressionable, and the broke
You don't deserve the defense that the men and women of the US military provide to you every day, you ingrateful and short sighted little man.
That's true. Some firms I know recruit solely through their workers, even when they're desperately strapped for hands. Its a form of validation and screening I guess, the idea is if this worker is good, he may know others who are just as good.Admiral Valdemar wrote:
