Lots of reading to do!

Post by The Duchess of Zeon »

I DLed for free off of a catholic website an E-book compilation in winhelp format (odd choice for them to put it in, but it is searchable) of all the works of the early Church fathers. It goes as far forward in time as, roughly, the Seventh Ecumenical Council of the undivided Church.

That's over two hundred seperate works, including such lengthy volumes as St. Augustine's City of God. I've read some of them already but not the vast majority of them; this should be interesting, and by the time I've finished I wouldn't be surprised if I'll have self-educated myself in the equivlant of a theology degree, which will be nice for using against fundies.

Marina, you must be a masochist if you're willing to read all of that shit. So, do you prefer whips or chains?

I'm musing over how much I should say for the safety of the board.

I really, really ought to lock this thread...

12 years of Catholic school and I can't read all that. Want real insight? City of God and Summa Theologica by St Thomas Aquinas.

Also, most of what you call "fundies" (stereo-typical Southern Baptists) actually call us Catholics "satanists". hypoChristians (as I like to call them) tend to forget that whole "love thy neighbor" deal.

The human brain can form permanent unconscious imprints just from repepition. If you read all that your probably going to end up brainwashing yourself.

It's all about your mindset on approach.

True; if you are analyzing and criticizing as you read, then it is your conclusions which will be imprinted just as strongly as the text, if not more so. I learned my contempt for the Biblical God after reading the Bible as an adult with the ability to analyze and think critically (that's why they try to get you to accept it as a child).
