Fire Prisms are just unholy Wraithlords have their uses, but they can't stand up to ANY punishment. I mean, I tried using them to counter Dreadnoughts once, and they just evaporated. So I prefer Prisms for the most part. If you're going to use your vehicles to support infantry, I'd recommend some Vypers with missile launches, as prism tanks have the (dis)advantage of splash damage. Just make sure you pay attention and jump 'em out if they start getting beat up, Eldar can't take punishment for shit. And Brightlances. LOTS of Brightlances.

Brightlances attached to Reaper squads are just wrong. I mean, Reapers don't have to move much anyway, they handle the murder of infantry, and Brightlances slash vehicles and /TURRETS/ to ribbons, especially in numbers. No, they're not the be-all, end-all, but try using them along with some Warp Spider haywire grenades.

White Haven wrote:A little further in-game, I'd recommend the Dark Reaper Exarch's Shuriken Cannon. With Fleet of Foot, DR's are hard as hell to pin down. Add in a Brightlance platform with grav booster on so they can run, and they can mow down most things. I've /LOST/ with greater than 3:1 kill ratios by using hit-and-run DR squads.
Nooooooooooo, don't research the Reaper exarch thing until much later when you have plenty of money to go around. If you really wanna research something out of the Aspect Portal, get either Haywire grenades for Warp Spiders, or the Banshee upgrade. War Shout sucks morale out of enemy infantry and the exarch's Executioner is brutal. The Reaper exarch, on the other hand, isn't quite as spectacular.
Wraithlords, as White Haven said, have their uses. Best being a CC shield for your Reapers if you're up against something like Possessed. Starcannons rule.
Soul shrine upgrades depend on what you intend to do. As a rule, never research anything for something you don't have out on the field. The armor upgrade is a nice first one. Or mobilize for war if you wanna go vehicles early.
Brightlance platforms are specifically for vehicles or buildings. Shuriken platforms do great damage against infantry, all kinds.
And don't attach your platforms to your squads: then they make the whole squad go slow and suffer from morale as well. Only attach them if the enemy's got something that's specifically targetting those platforms and you REALLY don't want to spend money replacing them.

After some experimentation, I have decided that the Eldar suck.

We've just taking to setting up passworded games on the Mordant Zone on the Gamespy servers, since direct IP connections only let one person in and block everyone who comes after. A game can be up in a few minutes if anyone cares to play.JediNeophyte wrote:I'm around most of the day today, so I can hang around while you all take 3 hours to get hosting sorted out.

There were no means available to stop an early hero rush. None. A chaos lord barged in and started beating the crap out of things. Now, a couple squads of Space Marines would kill him after a fairly difficult fight. He went through three squads of Guardians with ease and then started hacking on my buildings. By the time I got rid of him, the Chaos Sorcerer was on his way with several squads of Chaos Marines.InnocentBystander wrote:If by "suck" you mean "requires finesse and skill" then ya. Where were your Banshees?
A couple of Banshee squads, a couple of Guardians, and a Farseer can eat up any AI early rush if handled correctly.
Sic the Farseer on the marine squads while one of your Banshees gang up on the Chaos Lord. The other Banshee squad, if you have one, joins the Farseer in cutting up the chaos marines while the Guardians shoot either the Chaos Lord or the marine squads.
Goodbye computer.
EDIT: Once you finish this, start replacing your guardians with dark reapers. Keep the marines tied up with Banshees and Farseer while the Reapers shoot from afar. Slightly later on, when you start to get vehicles, get either Fire Prism or if you want to be different, get two or three Falcons with Starcannon upgrade. Couple them with those Reaper squads, and watch your force EAT marine squads alive left and right with impunity.
EDIT2: When the Chaos Lord is at about 1/4 health, have the Farseer do Mind War on him to finish him off. Take the Banshees off of him and sic them on the remaining enemy forces.

Puny Eldar! Send 'alf da Boyz home!
I'm by no means an Eldar expert, but I don't have any early game problems with them. A Farseer can be out just as fast as any other HQ, though I'm not sure of the viability of getting out a Seer Council now after the "nerf".
I'm up for a game, as now I want to play Eldar.

Fun DoW fact of the day: Did you know an Eldar D-Cannon turret can frag an Avatar or Bloodthirster in eight shots?
If you're gonna build a line of turrets, upgrade most of them to D-Cannons. They do ludicrous damage to vehicles and Daemon-class units. And do absolutely massive morale damage to infantry (they'll break a Possessed squad in like two or three shots). But D-Cannons don't do any physical damage to infantry, so leave one or two turrets unupgraded to deal with them once they're broken.

Jesus, as if they weren't overpowered enough already. Not to mention their slow projectile speed results in a bug - if you move a unit out of range after its been shot at, the projectile will continue to follow them indefinitely beyond the cannon's range, eventually hitting. This wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the blast radius. As it stands, it's nigh impossible to break a d-cannon line. If the Farseer is keeping watch there, you can't sneak infiltrators by to deep strike anyone, and if properly set up, jump troops won't be able to get by either.
So to recap -
- Instantly breaks most infantry squads with one hit. Elite units take a couple.
- Horrific damage to vehicles and superunits.
- Very long range
- Very large blast radius
- Range bugged in the user's favor
- Can be built anywhere on the map, including victory locations
- Relatively cheap and easy to make
Yeah, overpowered.

That is precisely why EVERY OTHER RACE has true artillery and Eldar do not.
Whirlwinds and Defilers are blessings for the SM and Chaos sides. For Orks, it's the Looted Tank.
Eldar setting up D-cannon turret farm? Bomb it from where they can't shoot back.

I generally only build one Whirlwind, if any. I'll have to keep this in mind next time I'm fighting Eldar, though I can't say I've ever run into D-cannons.

Anywho, we up for a game? My university's firewalls prevent people from joining games that I host, even on the Gamespy servers, so someone else set one up if we're going to play.
