Shinova, learn this now. Putting your Force Commander inside my base via orbital drop pods so that he can call in an orbital bombardment does not work. My Dreadnoughts, as you found out twice, are all over that like flies on a corpse. Such as the corpse your Force Commander became. :P Oh, and I'm finding that watching you and Bystander is immensely entertaining. I find that having you guys come at my defenses in quick succession slightly un-fun, but what the hey, that's the game. :P

Yeah, I kinda went, "Hmmm, maybe bad idea."

Anyway I lost. I should've smashed Bystander early on. I made some mistakes late game too.

What a fight! I made a massive blunder early game, but thankfully ol' rogue saved me, you can see how I repaid him ;)
Fantastic fight! Here's the playback for anyone who wants to view, it's over a meg, quite a fight! Just.... ignore the little arms race in the middle, hehe!
Linky!

Great fight, hope we can do it again sometime!

Edit: ugh... tomorrow is going to suck... I'm going to get so little sleep... I may have won the battle, but I think I'm going to lose the war! :(

How did I save you? I didn't make a single offensive all game; you two were swarming through the center and any sortie I attempted got killed in seconds. :P I was figuring on letting you soften each other up, but then Shinova softened me up for you, and the rest is history. And I stayed and watched through to the end. Got a screenshot of an interesting little graphical glitch, wherein you captured Shinova's strategic points, yet his flag remained on them. Did either of you see that, or was it just me?

Edit: Also, quite contrary to saving you, I was busily shelling you with that Whirlwind. I should have built more than just the one so I could saturate your base with artillery. My own blunder right there, or one of several.

*shrug*

I suppose it was your existance and Shinova's decision to attack you rather than finish me that saved me. I was just sorta cowering with 2 squads of Banshees and a pair of guardians (plus ol' farseer). I had just assumed you had attacked shinova while he was attacking me.

Couple things I learned. Move infantry up slowly - Dark Reapers are fairly tough. Once they are engaged, bring in the prisms to move up the line, followed by Brightlances for Vehicle Sniping and heavy firepower when all the fire prism tanks go up. The FP tanks are just... well.. cumbersome.
I do admit one thing - when it becomes a game like that the Avatar is awsome, I was able to build Reapers so fast, it was unholy.

Question - is the Predator dual las turret really worth the damage bonus against vehicles? The cannon still does plenty of damage to vehicles, but it also knocks around infantry groups, and I find that invaluable.

On a final note - geeze Orbital Strike is painful. Eldrich Storm only tosses infantry away once, OS makes a nice area of impassible terrain for what seems like forever!

What many people do is only upgrade the main cannon to a lascannon and leave the bolters alone, that way it can both kill vehicles and take on infantry.

That said, Predator lascannons do awesome damage versus armor. They're more than worth it.

Hehehehe.

My problem was that I couldn't field enough Preds to deal solely with your Prisms. One Lascannon Predator can destroy two Prisms and still have some HP left.

So I had to stick missiles on my marines, but that leaves them open to your Reapers.

I could stick heavy bolters on them, but that still leaves your brightlance platforms, which need plasma to deal with effectively, so I was pretty much screwed on multiple fronts.

What I should've done is build at least six whirlwinds and keep your infantry in a state of constant flight (lol :P ) while my missile marines dealt with those pesky prisms.

And afterwards, keep shelling your base for as long as decently possible.

Maybe next game (or I can just rush you to death :P )

EDIT: I managed my troops poorly. Especially the fact hat I clumped my marines close together and didn't spread them out. BAD idea.

Well you know, war is all about who makes the most mistakes ;)
I, of course, had many opertunities to reinforce my position which I could have taken, Queue up dozens of invisible forts all over the map. In retrospect, with all that time I could have done a very evil D-Cannon Siege on both sides, just row upon row of them.

By the end I had figured this much out - Send in dark reapers *slowly* so they can engage your SMs (DR's have a lot of range, and are pretty tough) long enough to bring Prisms up, which sorta toss infantry around like it's their job. An Eld Storm can always help. But I find that Prisms are just awfully cumbersome things to use en masse. They get in the way of each other, they like to charge for no reason, their turret shoots at whatever the hell it wants to, it's just wierd. The "All Prism" method just doesn't work great, they are honestly poor against vehicles, if for no other reason than they never seem to target the vehicles (good thing? maybe... they "stun" a while infantry squad+ for a while). Brightlances, a half dozen+, are pretty good at sniping tanks.

Bosh! Banshee's pwn SM's so bad! It's just the orc commander with like a zillion hitpoints that gives me major trouble.

Funny thing I noticed, maybe someone could explain - when my base was under attack my mostly SM's the D-Cannons killed most of their moralepretty quick, but they didn't run away... what is that all about?

Units don't run away when their morale runs out unless you tell them to. They're just less effective while demoralized.

Less effective like... they can't hit anything? Or do they just cry a little while gunning people down?

Less effective like their accuracy is slashed by 80%. Also, they have a 20% increase to movement speed.

Sorry I haven't been around for a round or three the last few days. I should have some time Friday night for a good mix-up.

Right, just got back from class. Except for heading down to Mr. Ed's for lunch to talk to a guy about a gig for Saturday night, I'm free the rest of the day.

Got no ping on your game when I try to connect; no idea whether it's firewall related, distance or connection.
