*sigh* Tell me they aren't bringing religion into WWE...

Post by Lord_Xerxes »

Watched my tape of WWE Raw last night after I got home from work. Now, I've known for some time that HBK Shawn Michaels has found god. No big deal. As long as it doesn't affect his character. But of course, last night, it seems like they're bringing religion into it.

Last night HHH came out during HBK's promo in the ring, and said something to the degree of "You think you're going to beat me at Survivor Series because you believe in god. Let me tell you something, in this arena I AM GOD." Then HBK pointed up at the sky. And HHH then repeated himself, and the two went at it, with HHH giving him the pedigree, further compounding evidence that he is god and that HBK's god is far weaker than him. haha.

And JR also stated that his top reason of 5 that HBK would beat HHH is "HBK is a believer, and he believes in his heart." The other reasons weren't mentioned.

Don't get me wrong, I love HBK. I just think that bringing his IRL beliefs into storylines just to come yet another line of shitty angles that have come out lately. But I love how HHH continues his trend lately of telling his IRL opinions about the buisness in-character, by stating that he is god-essentially, that he controls everything WWE, and WWE revolves around him.

I love the idea of HHH being god, especially after that online journal of his that came up on a wrestling site a few weeks back that discussed HHH's jealous, vainity, and personal problems with Steph (esssentially, couldn't get it up after she said he was big-he took it as fat.)

Steph: God, you're so big!

HHH: Damn you, Steph! Damn you straight to hell!"

*banishes her there*
*gazes down at his flacid god-phallus.*

I'm told that HBK is now a purebred literalist fundie, actually. Very awful. A friend of mine showed me some old tapes of when he was in Degeneration-X. Funny stuff, and my coworker, who watches regularly, bewails the fact that he's crossed over into annoying religious territory.

I haven't watched wrestling for years. Wrestling and religion don't seem to mix very well though.

Wrestling appeals to the lowest common denominator. The lowest common denominator in North America tends to be religious. Ergo, this is just demographics targeting.

That's just it, I haven't seen Michaels in the ring for a while. The last time i watched Raw there were no references to god or religion. They did talk about puppies quite a bit! :)

Why don't they work Michael's religion into an angle where he comes out with Brother love as his manager and they both proclaim to spread the good book around the fed. Have the Undertaker join the group, and repackage him as Cain "The Pastor". It would make for an interesting stable. Damn, I should be writing the shit that goes on WWE!

Vince McMahon said that the two aisles he won't let the WWE travel down is religion and politics. Shawn Michaels is merely stating he has found God. All the other statements that are being singled out are fairly ambiguous. What is wrong with believing in your abilities?

As for wrestling apealing to the "lowest common demoniator" its an action movie. Being a fan of it is certainly no more stupid to dedicating mountains time and money to a series of sci-fi movies.

Fine, except for the fact that every single wrestler with a religious gimmick has failed miserably. Jake "the Snakes" Roberts's religions angle was one of the lowpoints of his career, and currently, D-von...well, his results speak for themselves.

Even the Undertaker's Satanist stint was pretty bad.

Yesterday. My roommate's best friend's roommate is a WWE fan, and was watching it while we were over. All I have to say is that at least the old wrestlers could act.

Except that it's the dumbest action movie ever made in the history of mankind.
