Frankly, I find the new BSG to be a breath of fresh air in television. It's not just a science fiction series, or anything trivial or buzzy as a "sci-fi drama." Finally, we have a dramatic series with a science fiction setting.
Blessings to Moore for getting to it first. Let's hope it's only the beginning.

Some things I counted:
13 pilots were killed in the accident, while 7 were injured.
Apollo said there were 40 Vipers, but 21 pilots. That Viper count is close to mine of 37, so I'll use it as my upper limit. For the Mk VII count, this is what I have:
I saw 6 Mk VIIs definitely land, and one more that probably landed, on the Galactica in the miniseries. Since Apollo was not flying his Viper, we can generously conclude that it was inoperable at the time. So, the final count is:
Upper limit: 39 Vipers
Acts of Contrition: 1 Mk II lost.
31 Mk IIs remaining.
8 Mk VIIs remaining.
Lower limit: 36 Vipers
My pilot count: 37 Vipers total

Hmmm. Good stuff. Though I always feel that having a flashback inside of a flashback is bad storytelling. They could have done the 'Starbuck in the Viper spinning out of control' thing then put up the label 'One day earlier' thing.
Anyway, good stuff. Advances the plot. They're still getting water. They are in need of pilots. Character interactions are advanced.
Boooo, Caprica scenes. Either bring on Cain and save Helo's and discover that Boomer is a Cylon and bring him back to the Galactica, or KILL HIM!

Well, there is the network vs cable ratings difference. That might be a rather large hurdle. But I honestly can't see THAT many people still watching ENT. I mean, how many people actually get UPN (I sure don't: at college or at home)?

Here in Utah, Enterprise comes on at 700 and BSG at 800. Way back when, there was another episode where StarBuck crashed on a planet with a Cylon.....
I'm sure this one will be ten-times better.
Anyway, I'm loving this show. The writing only continues to improve, the characters are believably human, and the fight scenes are awesome.
I don't know where to start, really. The flat-spin is so deadly that even I, a non-pilot, know that once the plane starts spinning there's no recovery.
The hardass routine in training, as I said above, is to make sure that the "nuggets" know that she is in charge, there will be no ifs, ands, or buts, her word is law.
Even if she's fighting the ghosts of the past and taking it out on them.
Having to confess to Adama was the hardest thing she'd ever done. Adama's reaction was CO first, and father second.
Hotdog should be kicked but-first out of the pilot's program for disobeying a direct order, even if he did get one Cylon. He's lucky that he just lost power to the Viper instead of getting vaporized. Leo and Adama will be coming down on his ass like a ton of bricks, so maybe getting vaped would have been a mercy.

Knife, I looked at the fl;ash back within a flahsback completely differently. I thought it was really clever and throughout the show I'm thinking dream sequence that would end well once she exorcised her demons. I was pleasantly surprised.

While not exactly right, it was obvious what was going to happen. Good stuff. I like it. Hell, they even draw loose inspiration from the original. A prison break and now Starbuck shot down on a desert-ish planet.

*shrug* the plot lines so far have shown a remarkable effort to keep it 'real'. In this, I see the bomb shelter as an attempt to keep the two going on Caprica. Which doesn't bode well for me, since I really don't like the whole subplot.LadyTevar wrote:

I really did like the flashbacks. They were letting you get inside their heads, feeling/seeing what they're seeing as they react to the situation.

They are doing too much with Helo on Caprica to simply kill him off. Clearly the Cyclons are setting him up for something big, they gave him Boomer and now a Bomb-Shelter. I liked the backwards hat guy. What shadowbox? The pic Adama kisses when he enters? I just figured it was a goodluck charm of the squadron. Squads are pretty superstious sometimes.
