Indeed - let's get some genuine Macross instead of the unbelievably bastardised and crap version hacked together by HG (evil bastards...).

Not long until Macross Zero comes out as well :D

What's the difference between Macross and Robotech?

Super Dimension Fortress Macross was released in 1984 by Studio Nue with backing by Tatsunoko Productions. Tatsunoko sold co-ownership of the distributions rights to Macross to a company called Harmoney Gold. Harmoney Gold intially released two episodes of Macross dubbed in a direct to video release. Then they decided to sydicate the show, but there was some magical 65 episode requirement and so they took two other shows, Super Dimension Century Southern Cross (part of the Super Dimension trio of shows produced by Studio Nue. They aren't related in terms of story and setting.) and Genesis Climber Mospeada and rewrote all three until they came up with the three "generations" of the Frakenstein show Robotech. There was a lot of editing and airbrushing, especially to Southern Cross which didn't even take place on Earth. Fast forward a few years later, and Manga Video releases the latest Macross sequels, Macross II (Non-canon continuity) and Macross Plus (actual continuity) and then Harmoney Gold rose up and started claiming that they own everything that had to do with Macross even though they never gave any credit or even dealt with Studio Nue.

Let's also get Macross Plus etc... out of the hands of Manga Ent.

It should be noted that while many Robotech fans are also fans of Macross(Such as myself), and the rest have no problems with it, there are a disturbing number of Macross fans who hate Robotech(Like Parralax). Most of these seem to be from outside the US, and possibly didn't get introduced to anime through Robotech.

I enjoy both Robotech and Macross, and I agree Samas, it is disturbing how many Macross fans hate Robotech. Like Protoborg from SB (I know him in real life) has never actually seen either, except for Macross Plus and Macross 2, he just slams away for now reason.

Anyway I've already set it up so the local game and comic store will reserve copies of the RT comics for me. Can't wait. :)

I never knew Robotech was hodge podge of other work. I used to really like watching it on TV after school. That was in middle school and first year or so of High School. When I see an episode now, its all so cheesy.

It's a principle thing.

Macross fans who hate [/i]Robotech[/i] hate it because it's the embodiment of what we are against: cutting anime to pieces and putting them back together, so it can conform to a total redo of the story (which for older series hardly resembled the original).

Well I just get tired of people caliming that Robotech is dramatic and epic and all other purdy words when its pretty dumbed down in its presentation, plus the continuity issues make Star Trek look good.

That's somewhat ironic since Macross II has been removed from the continuity. Plus was good, II was OK. Didn't like 7. I still like the Macross Saga from Robotech, though there were a lot of cross-series continuty errors (like the two moons in Southern Cross). I'm waiting for both the new Robotech and the new Macross. And is that a VF-4 Lightning I see in the poster in the first post?

That craft you see in the poster is the VF-X-4 prototype Lighting. Its seen breifly in Macross as a little desktop model along with some imagination from Hikaru which makes it look like its flying for a bit. I don't think its going to wedge into te mis-matched mecha developement in RT.

Right, I remember the model from the anime, and I remember Palladium RPG stats for the VF-4 being done up by Dave Dietrich on the Web at steelfalcon.com. Superior to the VF-1 Valkyrie since it has energy weapons which don't require ammunition, extending combat endurance. Good aircraft. I guess they probably won't have an actul VF-X-4 in the new anime, since it would have to go past Khyron's suicide attack at the end of Macross.

Yes. Roy Fokker (the blond) was a barnstormer before he became a military pilot. He flew for the Hunter Flying Circus before becoming involved in the Global Civil War, which was ended by the crash of an alien starship that contained the technology to build the VF-1 Valkyrie (the center airplane).

From left to right

I believe the VF-4, VF-1S, Biplane.

Anyway not looking forward to it unless Jay Faeber(cool guy, poor ideas...he likes bang zap stuff a little too much) is doing only light writing...his normal stuff is bad in terms of outlandish dialogue or plot.

Still I hope it's at least okay for my friends sake since he love Macross and Robotech with a hearty passion.

All right, now PLEASE tell me this biplane is not the main fighter of the series, and does not participate in military action.

No, I don't even remember seeing a biplane in the original anime. The main one is the one in the middle, VF-1S Skull One of Skull Squadron (loosely based on the now disbanded Jolly Rogers). The VF-X-4 did not appear in the original except as a model of a prototype aircraft.

I've seen some of the previews for the RT comic. It uses F-24 Dragon IIs as their main fighters and the preview shows them versus some MiG craft in a poor dogfight scene. Plus there was an overhead view of a carrier in the RT comic which was really funky looking. From what I've seen they aren't doing their research on the subject and are just trying to make everything look military-esque.

Do you have a pic of the carrier (either postable or link)?

Well if I dig through the Macrossworld bbs I might find the pic. I'll try tomorrow, but I can describe it a bit. Basically it looks like a good carrier, except their a really strange arrangement of catapults and blast deflectors. Even a blast deflector where there is no catapult right at the edge of the ship :?
