Is this like a highschool where you have access to a computer now and then and has a painfully locked down network, or a Uni where the feel the internet is only to be used for "Educational Purposes"? If the second, there are ways around it, though they can be a lot of work, or so I'm told.

I can play a few games on the network like diablo II and warcraft III but I haven't tried on DoW. This is at a Univ. Southampton of Long island to be exact.

DoW has some NAT navigation so it should work.

Battle Net and DoW use the same port, 6112, so yeah.

The trick, I've been told, is that you need to form a club. My school requires like a dozen people before they consider it a club and give it funding or whatever. Create a CS club, tell them you want to play in tournyments or something, you might acutally get somewhere.

Dawn of War keeps freezing up on me when I try using the Army Painter. It just freezes after a while... anybody got an idea why? I'd like to play with somebody/ies against some computer opponents sometime, so I could get the hang of it.

You do know how to log in, right? Multiplayer > Online Game > Login (if you don't have an account, it'll ask you to create one here) > Select the Ultima Segmentum chatroom from the drop down menu on the left, above the listings of people in the room you're in.

I'm trying to get in there, but first I had to install a patch to upgrade to 1.01.

Okay, fine.

But NOW it's telling me I need to get the fucking patch for 1.0. HUH?

There's 3 patches, iirc. There's a quick one and then it goes through the main 2 game updates.

Took forever on my dial-up, but you should be getting a decernt rate, assuming DoW doesn't cap it rediculously low.

There's been a lot of patching done since the release. I'm up to game engine version 1.20.

Yeah, but this pisses me off because this is the EXACT SAME PATCH I downloaded weeks ago, only to be told that I had "a higher version" or whatever when I tried installing it!

EDIT: The big patch is now a quarter of the way done DLing, so make your decision as to whether or not we're going to play accordingly.
