Not nessicarily. It could "answer to it's people" by telling them to fuck off whenever they make a suggestion on how to do things...Durandal wrote:Wait, so we don't have a right or desire to force democracy on anyone ... but we're going to build governments that "answer to their people"? Is he fucking for real? A government that answers to its people is a democracy.
Iran is a supporter of terror. Iran must disarm. This sounds familiar....

No. He praised them first for Camp David and then said they should be more democratic.Did he just hold egypt up as a shining example of freedom?

Actually, I think he just told Mubarak to allow free elections.Stravo wrote:Did he just hold egypt up as a shining example of freedom?
Speaking of telling Arab nations what to do, what the hell does "Stop supporting terrorists and open the way to freedom" mean?

No. They were explicitly instructed not to, during the Clinton years.Stravo wrote:Has anyone seen the Congress this divided during a state of the Union before? Even under Clinton I don't recall the Republs acting like this.

Meh, it is not a legacy, but we should feel pretty good about the Iraqi elections. So he can have his little wank over it.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Yeah. But this time, he's actually right.Seriously, though, anyone else reminded of Bush's pre-war rhetoric?

Poor Safia doesn't look too happy despite Bush's gloating about how she was able to vote.

If we decided to roll over the border from Iraq, there'd be jack and shit they could do to stop us. Of course, there wasn't anything Iraq could do either, and look how that turned out.Durandal wrote:... forcing our way of government on them?RedImperator wrote:Speaking of telling Arab nations what to do, what the hell does "Stop supporting terrorists and open the way to freedom" mean?
There IS something appealing about the idea of marching into these places and stomping the assholes running it into the ground. I'd especially love to string Omar Hasan Ahmad al-Bashir (Sudan) and his cronies from the lampposts. The thing is, it's easy to fantasize about doing that when you don't have to think about the aftermath.
Nobody in this administration thinks about the aftermath, and if they do, it's pure fantasy.

Kind of my point, barganing postitions to negotiate them not getting nukes, good. Anyone not willing to conceed that Bush would invade Iran if he wants? Even better with them being surounded. Not that I think its a good idea, just that it is there.Joe wrote:Not if they get nukes.Americans on the west, Americans in the east. Barganing positions, good.

Wow. The Iraqi woman hugging the mother of the deceased soldier to a massive ovation...that was a pretty good moment. I actually don't have anything cynical to say.

That was a nice tribute to the sergeant's parents.
Wonder why he never mentioned any of the letters he's gotten reading, "WHY THE FUCK DID YOU SEND MY CHILD TO DIE?"
